March with Michelson Day 29: Stranger
English Author’s Daughter by Leo Michelson, 1936
It is not uncommon for artists to paint or sketch strangers in their day to day life; whether through practice or commission, artists might find themselves working with unfamiliar faces. This young woman, only identified as an English author’s daughter, may not have been a stranger to Leo, but she is a stranger to those who see this piece. In a way, this portrait of a woman, with no documented name or story, is a stranger to the real woman that it depicts. What strangers do you capture in your artwork?
