McKee Monument & Mercantile

McKee Monument & Mercantile For over 100 years it was the Location of the McKee family Business (1907 to 2009) now just a memory. Many would ask if it was a museum because of the detail.

In 1901 John Raphel McKee started a monument (tombstone) business in downtown Marshall, MI. He moved it to 201 Exchange Street in 1907 and was the final location of the family business until 2009 when John's grandson retired and sold the property. Strictly a monument business until 1942 when William John McKee (John's son) inherited the business but shortly later after his marriage to E. Roberta S

nyder, books, collectibles and antiques became an addition to the business. In 1995 David Michael McKee inherited the business later phasing out the monument portion and going strictly with collectibles and antiques. He arranged the store in such a way that it looked like the old country stores from the early 1900's and he furnished it with 20 mannequins in early period attire. It was was truly enjoyable while it lasted and they met a lot of wonderful people and will have a great number of fond memories as they hope you did. This store front occupied a candy store named Sugar Shack which later became an accountant's office.

This was built by David McKee to look like a 1907 horseless carriage from the time his grandfather first moved from downtown Marshall to the corner of Green St. and Marshall Ave. with his monument business.

Found some more pictures of the mannequins that occupied the store back in the day.
