The Fauquier Heritage and Preservation Foundation

The Fauquier Heritage and Preservation Foundation The repository and research arm of The Fauquier Heritage and Preservation Foundation, located in Marshall, VA (formerly the Old Salem Meeting House).

Located in Marshall, Virginia, the Fauquier Heritage and Preservation Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1993 to encourage the citizens of Fauquier County to become more familiar with the rich heritage of the area. Over time it has expanded that encouragement to include anyone who may be interested in Fauquier County worldwide. FHPF collects archival material related to the County's Colonial past and recent history, and provides a resource for both the study of County history and for genealogical studies. FHPF also sponsors educational and entertaining events designed to heighten awareness of the legacy of Fauquier County's founding families. An ever-expanding collection of historical documents is housed in the John Kenneth Gott Library (formerly the Old Salem Meeting House), located at 4110 Winchester Road in the town of Marshall. Many of these documents were donated by the late John K. Gott, the late T. Triplett Russell, the late Catherine Price Kent, and the late Elizabeth W. McNamara. Please check out the John Kenneth Gott Library page for more information.

Did you know that our John Gott Library not only contains his own publications, such as High in Old Virginia's Piedmont, but also contains John's entire personal collection of books? Our library contains thousands of books related to our area's history, architecture, and genealogy, and we also have local artifacts and maps on display. We welcome anyone working on a research project to visit us during our hours: Tuesday 10-4 and Wednesday 9-noon, with Saturday hours starting soon!

Our very own Raymond Maguire was featured on Fauquier Now today! Raymond does a wonderful job of deciphering and typing, word-for-word, the contents of our very old collection of handwritten letters so we have easily readable versions.

We have had an exciting summer here at FHPF! We are now the proud owners of the property at 4118 Winchester Rd. in Marshall (including the house pictured). This property is adjacent to the property upon which our John K. Gott Library is situated, which will allow us to expand our campus, and provides us the additional space that we so desperately need for the storage and display of our ever-growing collection.

We are embarking upon a huge undertaking in rehabilitating this 90-year-old house, as it will be both a time-consuming, and also a money-consuming project. We are currently seeking donations for our Building Fund, and will keep you updated as we progress along this journey.
