This past weekend Capt.Russell Fish and I had a Loon carving and painting class as a benefit for the Chincoteague Museum. Russell was under the weather so Brother Ross filled in for him. We had 15 carvers who all completed their Loons. After the seminar we were able to spend a day on our Deer Hunting property.Guided by Unkl Larry, Ross,Scott and I spent a full day working in the great outdoors!

Somerset County Arts Council asked for historical buildings in 11x14 format. What's more historical than the "necessary building" that was behind every house and business? This one was modeled after the Ward Bros.Privey...palonia,acrylic and gouche.

Just finished another "antiqued decoy" class at the Ward World Championships last week. Carved start to finish, painted with oil paints, ronan, alkyd and tube oils, and "antiqued".This year it was a Brant, used a N. Rowley Horner brant form as our starting point. Everyone was instructed to "put yourself into it" as we don't want to make copies of anothers work. What a GREAT TIME this class is. Working with my Brother Ross is both a Blessing and Fun as we are on the same page in instruction. Painting is what most come for...I trust we didn't disappoint. I worked the oils for "loft" and brush strokes, and blending. When finished the textures can be seen under the finish(s).The participants didn't know it but they were auditioning for next years project. A Ward Brothers Canada Goose to commemorate the Ward World's 50th anniversary. I wanted to see how well blending feathers would work in this format. Thanks to all involved!! On to our Ward Canada Goose!!

I also plan to answer questions, most answered cheerfully! See you thursday!

After over a year of planning and over 4 months working on this project, it's finally finished!!! I was commissioned to make the trophies for the Golden Retiever Club of America trials. Check out...2017 GRCA National Specialty on Facebook. Included here are most all of them..missing are 12 already boxed up. Most of them are smooth painted decoys on walnut keels, some are decoys that have been antiqued to impart age. (for the hunting classes) All are on 2 wood bases of white cedar and walnut. This was a very labor intensive, but fun project. Finished!! Now I can get my life back...and maybe think of fishing again...

This past weekend we had the first carving and painting class at the Ward Museum in the new Luetkemeyer Mullan Legacy Center. A fantastic new addition to the Ward Museum, the building will be dedicated on thursday June 15th. We were able to "break it in" with this class. Our subject was a gunning decoy of a Long Tailed Duck or Oldsquaw. We started with a cut out white cedar body and head, tail to insert, eyes, and an oak keel. Every one walked out with a finished decoy. Included are some photos of the Great People who took this class. They all did a fantastic job, and I will add they were a joy to work with. The new room is a great place to hold a class, good lighting, very open with lots of space to move around.

Friday was delivery and installation day for the Great Horned Owl I have been working on for almost 3 months. Apprentice (words on that later) Kenny Glasgow and myself drove up above Baltimore and installed this piece of work into Sid's "shack",as he calls it. Mounted above the fireplace,at a height of 8 feet 9 inches,it had to have it's eyes focused on Sid's eyes when he was in his chair, left of the fireplace. You can notice that the Owls one foot is perched on a tenon coming out of the main horizonal beam. The whole building is cedar with mortice and tenon construction, with no nails used. Sid had a crew of Amish Barn Builders construct this cabin for him. The Owl also compliements the various Woodpeckers I carved for him.
