"Where the Little House Books were written." - In 1894, Almanzo & Laura Ingalls Wilder, with their daughter Rose, settled on Rocky Ridge Farm near Mansfield, MO. In 1932, Laura Ingalls Wilder

published the first of her beloved "Little House" books. Laura's home is just as she left it, carefully preserved as it was in 1957. As the New York Times quoted, "The house is bursting with treasures...a must detour for lovers of Laura's books." Our new Museum/Library keeps Laura's and Rose's memorabilia safe and available for visitors.

As we continue to experience much-needed rain across the Ozarks, we are reminded of just how grateful we are for the new roof on the historic Rock House.

The project was completed during our off-season and has already provided peace of mind as spring and early summer showers have moved through the area. Preserving historic structures requires the support of many people, and we are thankful that this important improvement could be completed.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dale’s Roofing for their outstanding work and professionalism, as well as to all of our supporters whose generosity helped make this project possible.

Earlier this spring, we had the opportunity to show our appreciation to the hard-working roofing crew by delivering a basket of homemade cookies from the Weaver Inn in Mansfield. It was a small gesture of thanks for the care they invested in helping preserve one of our treasured landmarks here at Rocky Ridge Farm.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in protecting the Rock House for future generations to enjoy.

The 69th season of welcoming visitors to Rocky Ridge Farm is now underway. The beauty of spring time is a great time to explore the two Wilder homes and surrounding acreage. In May 1938 Laura wrote her daughter Rose (then in NewYork) of how beautiful the landscape was: “Trees are all in full leaf now and the very light in the yard is green. It so very restful on the eyes “

"We're just another piece of that history line. And it's our turn to love it, to guard it, and to share it with others." Vicki Johnston

In the premiere episode of Season 3 of Whispers at the Garden Gate we welcome Vicki Johnston, Museum Supervisor at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home & Museum , and I couldn't be more thrilled to share our discussion with you.

Launching a season devoted to children's literature, our conversation explores how Wilder's beloved Little House books continue to inspire generations of readers around the world.

Vicki graciously shares behind-the-scenes insights into the museum, its extensive archives, treasured artifacts, family stories, and talks about the work of preserving one of America's most beloved literary homes.

We dive into the story behind the stories of a little girl who captured our hearts, told by the woman who lived them, edited by her daughter, and guarded by generations of women, from those who knew her to the one, who learned from them and is passing down the knowledge.
