ON THIS DAY - In 1894, the community of Leroy received its post office.

This post office, located three miles north of Keystone, was named for Lee Jordan and Roy LeMaster, local residents. It was closed on January 15, 1906. The map posted on May 27 shows the location of Leroy. Here it is again if you missed it.

ON THIS DAY - In 1830, President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act which led to more than 60,000 Indians being forced from their lands to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The Cherokee Tribe's movement became known as the Trail of Tears.

Over the next 20 years, more than 1000 Native Americans died during the relocation.

TODAY'S MAP - This 1907 clipping of our area was from the first road map produced by the State of Oklahoma. As you can see, there were very few roads; most of the travel in 1907 was done on trails.

Come by the Mannford Museum and view many other maps of the area.

ON THIS DAY - In 1957, one of the worst floods to ever hit Mannford reached its high water mark. The picture below is of the Salt Creek bridge, about 3 miles east of the old town on State Highway 51. The road was closed for several days, requiring people who wanted to travel to Sand Springs or Tulsa to make a 30 mile detour to Highway 33.

ON THIS DAY - In 1968, the largest race ever held at War Bonnet Raceway in Mannford took place. It was one race of the TransAm Series which featured production based U.S. made cars.

The list of big-name drivers in the race read like a "who's who" of auto racing in the 1960's. Unfortunately, the race was not a big success for Mannford because of torrential rains and the fact that Basin Road was not paved at that time.
