Invented in the late 1970s, the colorful Rubik’s Cube quickly became the puzzle craze of the 1980s, keeping everyone twisting, turning, and scratching their heads! WEB Construction, Inc.

WEB Construction’s story began in 1968 when founder Jerry Williams and two close friends erected grain bins across southern Minnesota and neighboring states. From humble beginnings, the company’s success grew. WEB employed nine crews of four to six workers, delivering up to 300 bins during their busiest year. The early 1980s saw rapid inflation, the accompanying farm crisis, a change in government substitutes, and plummeting land values. WEB decided to pivot from grain bins, shifting toward commercial development. One of their first major projects was the St. Clair Fire Department building.

The company was able to sustain its momentum, expanding into commercial general contracting and concrete, and construction project management. In 2019, after a successful career, Jerry Williams retired as president, passing the torch to his son and 25-year company veteran, Josh. Today, WEB remains a regional cornerstone, a legacy cemented by induction into the Greater Mankato Business Hall of Fame in 2024. Their footprint is visible with projects like the Mankato Travel Center, Mankato Clinic Children’s Health Center, Studio Five Apartments on Riverfront, extensive renovations at ISG Field, and the Maverick All-Sports Dome on the MSU, Mankato campus.

WEB has also deeply invested in people, partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Feeding Our Communities Partners, and the Miracle League. For over half a century, giving back has been at the core of their mission, weaving them into the very fabric of the community they serve, and ensuring a lasting impact for generations to come.

So celebrate your culture, you silly goose, and come pick up a book that puts Minnesota in the hilarious spotlight we all live in. Sure, you could shop big-box and make a billionaire richer, or you could shop local! Support a nonprofit, support Minnesota. Stop by the History Center to find a book or two.
