**An Update from Midwest Dream Car Collection**

Late Friday night, a driver experienced a medical episode in our parking lot, resulting in a vehicle striking the museum and causing significant damage inside and outside the building. We understand the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening, and we continue to send positive thoughts their way.

We are incredibly grateful for the many calls, messages, comments and offers of help we have received. This weekend reminded us just how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring Manhattan community.

A special thank-you goes to the Riley County Police Department and EMT's and especially Manhattan Fire Department Station 3. Their crew stayed late into the night to help with cleanup and construct a temporary wall to secure the building. We are also deeply grateful to BHS Construction, whose team arrived early Saturday morning to continue cleanup and reinforce the temporary wall.

This has been a difficult weekend for our staff and board, and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and concern. We also apologize to those who planned to visit but found us closed.

We are currently planning to reopen Friday, September 4th. Construction will continue for the next 5 to 6 weeks, and several vehicles will be off the show floor for now. We will be extending the Route 66 exhibit and will announce more details regarding that tomorrow. We appreciate your patience as repairs move forward and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Attention- Midwest Dream Car Collection will be closed for the weekend. Late last night someone had a medical episode in our parking lot and drove their car into our building. We will be spending the weekend cleaning up and evaluating the damage and getting repairs started. We will post when we have an update about being open later this week. Thanks for understanding!

Motor Monday- An icon takes flight!

The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe was born from championship-winning racing technology—and its famous roof-hinged doors were designed out of necessity. The car’s lightweight tubular frame left no room for conventional doors, creating the breathtaking “gullwing” design that became its signature.

Powered by a fuel-injected inline-six producing 215 horsepower, the 300 SL could reach speeds of up to 155 mph, making it the fastest production car of its day. Innovative, elegant and instantly recognizable, it remains one of the most legendary automobiles ever built.

Come see this automotive masterpiece at the Midwest Dream Car Collection!

Why do we have an image of a half-naked guy in the museum?

In 1993, Emile Leray wrecked his Citroën 2CV miles from civilization in the Moroccan desert. With limited food and water—and no welding equipment—he spent 12 days dismantling the car and rebuilding its parts into a working motorcycle using only nuts, bolts, screws and a few basic tools. He even had to operate it in reverse gear to move forward!

After riding back to civilization, Emile was greeted by police—and fined because the Citroën license plate didn’t meet motorcycle specifications.

From the Sahara Desert to the Flint Hills, this is the actual motorcycle Emile built to survive. Come see this extraordinary example of ingenuity, determination and automotive problem-solving at the Midwest Dream Car Collection in Manhattan, KS!
