Meet Amy. After retiring from her career in international news during the pandemic, she knew she wanted to do two things: get her MFA and volunteer at the Currier.

“I love being around art and people who love art,” she says.

Today, she’s one of the Currier’s exceptional volunteer guides, helping people connect to the many stories art tells.

She’s pictured here in front of one of her favorite works of art at the Currier: Marisol Escobar’s The Family.

“Marisol really captured what was changing about the role of women and the American family in the 1960s,” Amy explains. “Everyone responds to it, because everyone connects to the idea of a family.”

It’s that give and take – the sharing of impressions and stories – that she appreciates most about being a guide.

“One of the great joy joys is when people say, ‘I didn’t see it that way.’”

Her advice for visitors curious about contemporary art? “Come with an open mind and enjoy it. The Currier is an ideal environment for taking in a work of art.”
