Mamaroneck Harbor, c. 1888. This incredible shot by local photographer W.D. Daymon captures Mamaroneck Harbor long before it became the park we know today.

Back then, Harbor Island was actually a true island (sometimes known as Hog Island), accessible only by this narrow causeway. You can even see the hotel that once sat right on the water, welcoming visitors to the Sound.

While a landfill project transformed the island into the Harbor Island Park we walk today, this snapshot preserves Mamaroneck’s original shoreline.
