An Experiencing Esherick visit emphasizes a sense of place and integrity of materials, thinking broadly about Esherick’s legacy in the fields of art, craft, design, and architecture, and fostering a deep connection to the singular nature of the Studio. An Esherick and Architecture tour will l

Summer officially begins tomorrow morning. Although the sunshine and heat has felt like summer around here for weeks, tomorrow we will enjoy the longest day of sunlight and welcome the official start to a new season.

With the summer comes beautiful, flooding light in Esherick's Studio. Corners and crevasses are illuminated and the wood tones feel their warmest. Be sure to visit us this summer! We have an assortment of different tours, exciting events, a new exhibition in our Visitor Center, Esherick's birthday party, and more.

Breaking Ground: WEM's 32nd Annual Juried Woodworking Exhibition is officially open!

We are excited to share this wonderful exhibition with you. For the 32nd year of the exhibition, WEM sought to celebrate the 100th anniversary of a literal and symbolic groundbreaking: the completion of the first phase of Esherick’s iconic Studio. In honor of this moment, we invited applicants to take inspiration from what they consider groundbreaking, defined by any of the term’s multiple meanings.

The virtual exhibition features the works of all 26 included artists. These works are also available for viewing in a publication which is available as a digital download or in hard copy. The artworks selected for First, Second, and Third place and Honorable Mention will also be on display in the Visitor Center through September 20th.

The summer solstice gifts us the longest day (and shortest night) of the year this weekend! We are excited to celebrate the daylight, warmth, and sun that summer brings to the hillside.

⏰ Get excited, friends! The Wharton Esherick Museum's 32nd Annual Juried Woodworking Exhibition opens this Thursday!

For "Breaking Ground", we invited contemporary artists to take inspiration from what they consider groundbreaking, defined by any of the term’s multiple meanings. The artworks in this exhibition encourage us to consider what becomes possible when we embrace acts of breaking ground in our own lives.

This virtual exhibition will feature the works of all 26 included artists. The artworks selected for First, Second, and Third place and Honorable Mention will also be on display in the Visitor Center through September 20th.

Is it possible that the perfect Father's Day gift is a trip to the Wharton Esherick Museum to experience the Studio filled with joy and sound of music? We think so! 🎶

Celebrate the Summer Solstice and Father's Day with a music-filled day in Wharton Esherick’s Home and Studio! Enjoy music drifting from Wharton Esherick’s original radio–a 1960s Blaupunkt sitting on a custom made swing arm recently reinstalled over the dining room table.

Music stands, musical drawings, as well as photographs of cabinets for radios, record players, and phonographs will be on view! Guests are welcome to wander the Studio and talk with staff and docents as they experience this space brought to life by Esherick’s radio and the collection highlights delighting in Esherick’s love of music.

You may have noticed by now that the Wharton Esherick Museum is celebrating a very different anniversary than other cultural institutions across the country; WEM has been preoccupied with the Studio’s Centennial year in the midst of the nation’s 250th.

As our region prepares for semisesquicentennial celebrations over the summertime, we’re pleased to highlight a piece in the Wharton Esherick Museum collection that tells a longer, more expansive story of American decorative arts in our region: Wharton’s antique Carved Chest. The piece was recently moved back into the artist’s bedroom where it lived during the tail-end of his lifetime, so be sure to check it out on your next tour of the Studio!

It sure does feel like summer around here even though the solstice is still on the horizon. So, with summer on the brain, let this week's welcome the soothing sound of the ocean and feel of the breeze easing the intensity of the heat. It's no surprise, given his love of it, that Esherick carved so many stunning sailing prints.

Enjoy music drifting from Wharton Esherick’s original radio–a 1960s Blaupunkt sitting on a custom made swing arm recently reinstalled over the dining room table in 2025– alongside rarely seen selections from WEM’s collection highlighting Esherick’s music-related creations. Music stands, musical drawings, as well as photographs of cabinets for radios, record players, and phonographs will be on view!

Guests are welcome to wander the Main Gallery, Kitchen, and Dining Room of the 1926 Studio and talk with staff and docents as they experience this space brought to life by Esherick’s radio and the collection highlights delighting in Esherick’s love of music.

Wharton Esherick’s Home and Studio will be open with hour-long Open House slots beginning at 10:00 AM, 11:15 AM, and 1:30 PM.
