Sitting on Cecilia’s porch up the mountain from Marshall, NC, I marveled at these stately beauties and the butterflies swarming about them. I studied them for days until I could wait no longer. I wet my paper dampened my paints and brushed them loose, just like they are, wild and free as they waver in the wind in the cool mountain air.

"Mountain Meadow"

The local Native Americans used Goldenrod and Ironweed for medicinal purposes. It is plentiful and easy to harvest. I painted them from my sister’s porch up near the Pisgah Mountains. There’s a little brook running alongside, serenading them as the dance with the many butterflies. The Ironweed is a lively magenta that cannot be described, and the goldenrod shows it off nicely.
