Sidney Lanier Cottage House Museum Furthermore, Lanier received a federal commission to compose a Cantata for the Centenniel celebration of the United States in 1876 in Philadelphia.

The Sidney Lanier Cottage House Museum, located at 935 High Street in Macon, Ga., is the birthplace of noted poet, musician and soldier, Sidney Lanier (1842-1881). Perhaps best known for his poems "The Marshes of Glynn" and "Song of the Chattahoochee," Lanier was also a renowned musician, as he was first chair flute in the Peabody Symphony Orchestra in Baltimore for seven seasons. Join us tomorrow (August 14th) for our next Salon! Mercer professor David Davis will be speaking about his new book: World War I and Southern Modernism. This book explores "the impact of the Great War on southern writing". The event will begin with a reception at 5:30pm and the program will begin at 6:00pm. Salons take place at the Sidney Lanier Cottage (935 High St.) and are open to the public. Admission is $5 for non-members and $3 for students. Salons are free for Historic Macon members

Just in time for Christmas! Macon tea towels and wine goblets are now available for pre-order. Tea towels will be available for purchase or pick up at our annual Cottage Christmas event on Thursday, December 14th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The wine goblets will be available for pick up around the 20th (official date TBD). Contact Caity at Historic Macon Foundation to reserve your tea towels and wine goblets or if you have any questions.
