Today in History | August 28, 1963

On this day in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Before a crowd of more than 250,000 people, Dr. King spoke of equality, justice, and his hope for a nation where people would "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." More than six decades later, the speech continues to inspire people around the world to pursue justice, opportunity, and equality for all.
