Today, we at the Osage County Historical Society and Museum hosted the Overbrook Historical Society. They toured our facility, asking questions about museum management and gathering ideas. What a happy way to further our own mission, connecting Osage County communities through shared histories. Best wishes to all our citizens' historical endeavors!

Eileen Davis, our board secretary, spoke on her career as a telephone operator and supervisor at Appanoose Museum on Sunday. If you were unable to attend, never fear! She has been invited to give a similar talk at the Jackson County Historical Society in November.

Join us Appanoose Museum this Sunday, July 19th, at 2 pm to hear our own Eileen Davis discuss voice communication before wide spread cell phone use. Eileen Davis spent a career working in the telephone industry and is prepared to share her "insiders view." This presentation is free and open to the public.

Almost 30 people joined us this morning for our children's "America 250" stories and art. Here, they are making fireworks paintings.

Today at the museum, kids made their own family trees, learned how we treasure family stories, and had a lot of fun learning how our stories interconnect and travel by making marble paintings :)

What a great time today; seeing fossils at the museum, learning about Barnum Brown, a Dinosaur Hunter from Carbondale, and then digging for "fossils" at the Lyndon Carnegie Library. Join us at the museum next Thursday at 10:30am to learn about digging for stories, making family trees, and marble painting. All children ages 6-8 are welcome!

This Saturday, at 2pm, Lynsay Flory will present "Local stories of Melvern Lake" at the Franklin County Historical Society, in Ottawa, KS. Using oral histories from families who farmed land absorbed by the lake project, this presentation shares local stories rarely heard outside the county.

The Osage County Historical Society will bring it, along with more new and old memory quilts and quilt tops, to view at Arvonia Historic Preservation Society this Saturday from 11am-3pm.
