The Herreid Military Museum is excited to announce that OPERATION HOMECOMING video is now available on our website. This 33 minute video tells the story of a Jeep W***y that was discovered in a barn in Normandy, rebuilt by Ghislain Hardier, participated in the 80th D-Day Celebrations in Normandy featuring children of American soldiers who participated in the D-Day invasion and returned to America to a new home in Luverne MN. The movie was filmed and produced by Christophe Cocherie as a "brainchild" of Luverne native Jim Brandenburg. Enjoy....the show...we know you will!

Celebrate Veterans Day by stopping by the Herreid Military Museum for the Open House from 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, November 11, 2024. The museum is proud to be screening the 33 minute video - OPERATION HOMECOMING - that was produced this summer by Christophe Cocherie and Jim Brandenburg. The video features the story of the jeep pictured here that was found in a barn in France. This jeep was one of the hundreds of thousands of jeeps that served in France WWII and took part in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. The jeep will appear in person at Luverne Public Schools on Monday, November 11th for the Veterans Coffee, Pork Loin Give-away and the Veterans Day Program at 2 pm.

Attend the Veterans Day Program at Luverne Public Schools at 2 pm on November 11th. The program will feature 1Lt. McKenzi (Wenninger) Klein as guest speaker and music from the Luverne High School Band and Luverne High School Choir. All are encouraged to attend.

Take time on VETERANS DAY to honor our veterans with a visit to the Herreid Military Museum. The museum will be open from 10 am to 2 pm - serving rolls and coffee. Veterans will receive a token of appreciation from Premium Minnesota Pork. The museum will close at 2 pm on Veterans Day! Join us to honor all men and women who have served.

We have something really exciting to share! The Herreid Military Museum has a BRAND NEW WEBSITE...thanks to the efforts of Luverne High School Junior & Museum Intern Camden Hoven and museum website developer Reva Sehr.
The website features photos of Rock County veterans we have received over the years, an up-to-date list of the veterans with pavers at the Rock County Veterans Memorial (with interactive links that you can use to locate a paver), a brief description of some of the displays and a welcome to the museum by museum volunteer curator Terrie Gulden! Check it out and share the link! You will be glad you did!

The Herreid Military Museum features exhibits that tell the stories of Rock County, MN men and women who have served this great country through the artifacts, photos, and stories donated for the displays.
