John L. Lewis Memorial Museum of Mining and Labor John L. Lewis was born February 12th 1880, to Welsh immigrant parents in the coal mining camp of one mile East of Lucas, Iowa.

he began his rise to power in the United Mine Workers of America, served as President for 40 years and was founder of the CIO. The museum is accessible to the handicapped, with heating, air conditioning & restrooms.
