Had a great time taking in the work and talking with artists and friends at the opening reception for "Then & Now" at Lexington Arts and Crafts. Stop in and check out all the incredible collaborations! My functional sculpture "Snack Jar" will be on display alongside Glenn Szegedy's "Fish Snacks" for the duration of the show. Check out those love handles (see what I did there)!!

Exciting news! My functional sculpture "Snack Jar" will be on display at the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society for tge show "Then & Now". It runs July 11-Aug 2 with opening reception July 12, 2-4pm!

This sculpture is a part of a joint piece called "Snacks". I collaborated with Glenn Szegedy to create works that show mutual inspiration but distinction resulting from our stylistic, experiential and generational differences. His accompanying sculpture is called "Fish Snacks".

Glenn has been a mentor in my journey back to sculpture over the past 6 months. Despite my sculptural background, I am currently a production focused potter, so I tend to steer toward function and precision. Longer term I will create less pieces but increase their uniqueness and artistic value, so we're working on loosening up my creative thought processes. When discussing this project, he told me, "when it come to absurdity, if you giggle while you're making, you're there." I had so much fun creating this piece. It is a real treat for me to show something I created for fun, especially at LexArt, and especially alongside Glenn's work.

"Snack Jar" is food safe, midfire stoneware, brush on underglaze, glaze, engobe, fired in an electric kiln.

SMASH SMASH SMASH!!

This week we made a whole new batch of hobbit mugs for upcoming shows and only had 2 casualties! Sometimes when pieces dry unevenly they'll start forming cracks. It's a bummer but if there's one thing pottery teaches you it's to move on. If you made it once you can make it again. Just learn something from the experience and accept it as an opportunity to blow off some steam :)

Highlights from last Sunday! ✨️ Weekend #2 starts tomorrow!

One of my favorite aspects of traveling to fairs is seeing locals again.

Meagan and Annah had come by last year and started a collection of my whimsical hobbit mugs. They made me feel so appreciated as an artist and really made my weekend ♥️ I was delighted to see them again this year, and happily had pieces with me that spoke to them! Thank you for the support you guys. The collection continues!

I was also graced by the Queen of Potter Hollow, and one of my greatest role models, Dorothea Cotter. Dorothea is the strongest woman I know and someone I've looked up to since we became neighbors in my early teens. She was also my first "real" employer and taught me so much of what I know and how I think as a person. We also both love making pottery nowadays 🫖🍯🏺🪴

I didn't get a picture but also want to shout out to Mike - you know who you are! Great to see you again and glad you've been loving your stein 🍺

What a great weekend. Looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow and Sunday!!! I'm set up by the joust and have a ton of new pieces. Come on by and say hi! 🥰
