Happy Friday,

This week, Glen and John sit down with Josh Greenberg. While many know Josh as an accomplished angler, passionate conservationist and generally great guy; this episode centers on the challenges of running a fly shop and lodge during a pandemic. Josh and his wife, Katy, are the owners of Gates Au Sable Lodge. We hope you’ll find this episode insightful and thought provoking.

Happy Friday,

Our Podcast will be posted this afternoon, thanks for enjoying them along with us!!!

We’re back from a brief time out and we have a really fun show for you. Rex Schlaybaugh joins Glen and John as we throw a little change up on our Guides and Their Stories theme. This time we hear stories from the ‘sport’s’ seat. Rex is a member of The Big Creek Lodge, an accomplished angler and a conservationist of note. We think you’ll enjoy this episode.

Sorry folks, this is being posted a bit late. Last week was a busy week for this one... SO here's this weeks/last week post!

While Glen enjoys some family time; John sits down with Tom and Alexis Brodhead. The Brodheads operate 406 Fly Lines. Their goal is to use classic line tapers and grain weights to offer the perfect complement to classic cane and glass rods. In keeping with our theme; the Brodheads also share a unique guide story.

Happy Friday, Beaver, Beer, and Banjo Weekend!

Normally, this would be the weekend for Beaver, Beer & Banjo. Owing to (as Glen puts it) this damn virus, we’re going to try a little something different. The proceeds from our BBB event fund the Anna Biernat Scholarship. LTHS, since 2012, has provided two $1,000 scholarships to a Lovells or Crawford County student attending Kirtland Community College each year.

This year, we’re going to try a silent auction of sorts to help fund these special scholarships. Click on the following link to see what is being offered for bid.
www.lthsmuseums.org/auction

You may bid on an item or select to “buy it now”. Either way, please use our e-mail address to register your bid or buy. The timestamp on your e-mail decides tie-breakers - so enter early and often ;) [email protected]

Bids excepted until Monday, July 20th at 6pm…
GOOD LUCK!

Additionally, we have Voelker DVD’s two for $15 & Beaver, Beer, and Banjo T-Shirts for $20 each.

E-mails will be sent to the winning bidder to arrange payment and local pick-up.

How to Use Amazon Smile to Give to Charity

As you know this year because of COVID-19 we decided for the safety and health of all involved to cancel our events and keep our museums closed. And as you also know, the historical society runs on 100% donations. WE also know that many of you have not worked or have worked less because of COVID-19 and we have avoided asking for donations or done any fund raising this year. But, some of you might ask...how can we help anyway? A simple easy way to help us pay our bills and keep the lights on for future seasons is if you use AMAZON to make some, any, all of your on line purchases you can simply sign up for AMAZON SMILE and select Lovells Township Historical Society as your charity. Instead of using the regular amazon (dot) com link to log in, you'd log in the same way using the smile (dot) amazon (dot) com link instead! Nothing changes for you except the way you access your amazon account! All your member information folds over to the smile account! BONUS: It cost you nothing...a portion of your purchase price is directed to us. If you are not familiar with this program or want to know how to activate it, follow this link to find out more about this program.

THANKS! Hope to see you all soon!!

Friends, Guests, and Supporters,

The Lovells Township Historical Society’s Board has unanimously decided to keep the Lone Pine Schoolhouse and The Lovells Fly Fishing Museum closed for the 2020 season due to Covid-19. With no vaccine or great therapeutics, we don’t want to put our volunteers and guests at risk.

We have also cancelled this July’s Scholarship Fund raiser event, Beaver, Beer, and Banjo and postponed the Historical Lodge Tour scheduled in September.

We still have hopes to celebrate a ‘Trout Closer’ in late September, if conditions permit.

The LTHS Board thanks you for your support over the past years. We’re looking forward to a safe and healthy 2021!

Dear friends, patrons and neighbors,

We’re pleased to announce that the second episode of The BackCast Podcast is ready for your listening pleasure. This week’s conversation is a full throttled chat with Sam Surrey. Sam is a very talented fly tier and guide and a heck of a kind man. Be forewarned, there is a little salty language scattered throughout the podcast. Harmless, but worth knowing if youngsters are with you. Regardless, Sam has some great stories - we hope you enjoy it!

We’ve also added a Bonus Content page to our web site. We’ll use this page to share some of the panels that you would have seen in this year’s main room display. This week’s offering is a story about Lester Royce.

Lastly, we’ve kept the virtual Leaky Wader 1K certificate available for another week. If you didn’t get your 1K in, there’s still time.

It’s all available at https://www.lthsmuseums.org/events

Until next week; stay safe and enjoy the virtual museum!

Lovells Township Historical Society Announces...
‘Virtual Trout Opener’ Celebration
2020

Since we can’t be together for our traditional Trout Opener festivities; the Lovells Township Historical Society are encouraging everyone to join us by celebrating remotely.
As per normal, we suggest starting by running your own Leaky Wader 1K Fun Run. Put on your waders and run/walk just 3,280 feet (.62 miles). After you’ve done that, go to our website and download a certificate suitable for printing to recognize your accomplishment! Hit the website at … https://www.lthsmuseums.org/events

We would like to see about 200 hits on our website by tomorrow evening, that’s our usual attendance on Trout Opener and Leaky Wader Saturday.

Next, on our website, download our new ‘BackCast Podcast’
( https://www.lthsmuseums.org/events ) and listen to interviews with local guides, anglers and Michigan trout fishing personalities.

There was a time when families would gather around the radio and enjoy serial episodes of their favorite radio shows like Johnny Dollar, Inner Sanctum, Lights Out, etc. In this spirit, the Lovells Township Historical Society will be releasing weekly episodes of ‘The BackCast Podcast’ starting April 25th. Glen Eberly and John Porteous originally started these interviews before the COVID-19 outbreak as a supplement to our main room exhibit, ‘RIVER GUIDES and THEIR STORIES’. You can access these from our website (links will direct you) or by searching on Apple iTunes or Goggle Play.

We’ll release a new episode each week. If you’re listening via iTunes or Google Play; you can subscribe and new episodes will be downloaded to your phone or tablet when they become available.

We hope these activities will bring a smile to your face and offer a fun distraction until we can all be together again. Thanks for your continued support of the LTHS Museums - we’ll see you on the other side!

Please feel free to forward or share to others.

In the 1960,s and 1970,s I enjoyed many visits to the Trahan family cottage on North McMasters Bridge Road just south of North Down River Road. I can,t remember the name of the trail that led into their cottage but I think it,s in the Deckrow Trail-Harold,s Trail-Red Pine Trail-Flashlight Bend Road area. The neighbors were other people from Bay City, The Martindales and the Garbers. I,ve wanted to drive up there after 35 years to see everything again. Hopefully some day soon. Sincere greetings!
