Wheelhouse Art would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Hank Allgeier, who passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Hank worked with WheelHouse Art for the very beginning of our transition from B. Deemer Gallery. He was a kind, caring, and thoughtful man. He produced all of our printed signage from the temporary exhibition signs outside both of our galleries announcing what was on exhibit, to our banners, window lettering, and more. His help was crucial to getting us going and continuing to keep us going. Fast, friendly, and dependable. We owe a lot to Hank and will miss him dearly.

Thank you for everything, Hank. May God bless you and keep you.

From his obituary:
Hank was a graphic artist and worked for Metro Sign Company. Through this position, he collaborated on many projects in the Louisville area, particularly Churchill Downs and the Breeder’s Cup. Hank loved Louisville and donated his artistic skills to numerous charities and other events including Abby Road on the River. He was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and Morehead State University. As an avid billiards fan, he founded the pool league at Barrett Bar.

Join us THIS TUESDAY September 1, 6:00 - 8:00pm for a Reception for Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch’s “The World of Our Own Creation,” a solo exhibition at The Wine Room.

In this exhibition, the scale and physical presence of the canvas open new territory for ideas that have long animated Seggebruch’s work: rhythm and repetition, surrender and discovery, the transformation of familiar materials, and the deeply personal act of making a world through one’s own hand. These new paintings invite viewers to experience the energy of a familiar artistic voice speaking through an unexpected medium.

Three Lexington artists bring distinctly different perspectives on nature and the cultivated landscape to Garden Party.

Robert Tharsing and Ann Tower were partners in life as well as two influential figures in Lexington’s visual arts community. Tharsing, a longtime professor of painting at the University of Kentucky, moved freely between abstraction and representation and between painting and sculpture,
often returning to nature as a source of imagery and experimentation. His wonderfully playful The Octopus’s Garden, constructed from wood, paint, and stones, shows that expansive approach at work.

Tower was an accomplished painter in her own right as well as a curator, critic, and founder of Ann Tower Gallery. Her intimate oil painting Ashland Garden turns toward one of Lexington’s familiar cultivated spaces, capturing the garden as a subject rooted in both place and personal observation.

Liz Swanson continues that connection to Lexington through a practice that crosses the boundaries of art, architecture, drawing, and storytelling. Her work frequently considers how places and images help shape our experiences and sense of community, making the small oil painting Love for Sale a fitting addition to this exhibition.

Together, these three artists expand the idea of a “garden” beyond flowers and foliage alone—from something observed and painted, to something constructed and imagined, to a space shaped by our own relationships with the places we inhabit.

Garden Party is on view through September 26 every Wed-Sat, Noon-5pm.

In Garden Party, Emily Steinberg, Georgia Henkel, and Karen Spears Springate each transform the natural world through a distinctly personal way of seeing.

Steinberg’s Diary Painting 3 turns the garden into something intimate and narrative—a place where everyday objects, animals, vegetation, and vivid color mingle with the feeling of memory or an unfolding story.

Georgia Henkel approaches nature through two very different surfaces in Mimosa and Mimosa Study, moving from a small gouache painting to a larger image painted directly over a topographic map, where the organic form of the plant meets an abstract system for describing and organizing the land.

In Garden View: Dappled Light, Springate draws from the landscape around her Central Kentucky home, translating shifting light, color, and vegetation into a richly patterned surface. Together, the works reflect one of the ideas at the heart of Garden Party: that a garden is never simply a collection of plants, but a space shaped equally by nature, human presence, observation, and imagination.

Garden Party is on view through September 26 every Wed-Sat, Noon-5pm.

Join us at WheelHouse Art, LOU for a special afternoon with Jacob Heustis as he “Spills the Tea” on the ideas, materials, and processes behind his current solo exhibition, Tracers. This casual artist talk invites guests into a deeper conversation about how the works are records of moments, completed with traces of movement, fragments, interruptions, and omissions. Heustis will attempt to put words to the unspoken feelings of his Not Yet Untitled pieces.

Guests are invited to enjoy tea, light snacks, and an informal Q&A with the artist. Whether you’re an art collector, practicing artist, or simply curious about abstraction and mixed media, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience Tracers in a more personal and conversational way.

Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch has been up to something big. A few big things, really.

Join us TUESDAY September 1, 6:00 - 8:00pm for a Reception for Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch’s “The World of Our Own Creation,” a solo exhibition at The Wine Room.

Long known to WheelHouse Art audiences for her richly layered encaustic work, Seggebruch takes her practice in a striking new direction for this exhibition, presenting a body of mixed media paintings on canvas—including several large-scale works approaching nine feet in width. It is the first time WheelHouse Art will present her work on canvas, offering a compelling new view of an artist whose career has been defined by continual exploration, intuition, material curiosity, and an extraordinary sensitivity to surface.

WheelHouse Art recently acquired two pieces by Lexington artist Arturo Alonzo Sandoval to offer for sale on behalf of a private collector. This is a rare opportunity to own work created within the first decade of the artist’s arrival on the campus of the University of Kentucky, and his renowned practice of creating fiber art with exotic, recycled materials which has earned him international recognition.

“In 1971 while at Cranbrook Academy of Art and in 1974 in Kentucky new types of recycled materials were available to me. Some of the materials were automobile Mylar, 35 mm microfilm, battery cable, army webbing, laundry tag paper, and punched computer tape…Early successes using these materials and processes, as the selection of my Cityscape No. 1 art quilt for the Museum of Modern Art, NYC collection (gifted by Jack Lenor Larson) encouraged more investigation with recycled materials.” —Arturo Alonzo Sandoval

Patrick Adams was born into the rural farming community of Worthington, MN in 1965. After graduating from Winona State University in Winona, MN in 1989 with a BA in studio art, Adams went on to the University of Kentucky graduate school to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in painting. Having earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1992, he began exhibiting his paintings both locally and across the United States. He has twice been awarded the prestigious Al Smith Fellowship by the Kentucky Arts Council.

Adams was recently featured in the two person exhibition “pieced TOGETHER” with Teri Dryden at WheelHouse Art, LEX.

Sandoval and Adams work is on view through August 29.
