Last Saturday volunteers and staff took part in Forrest Green Farm's Farmstead Heritage Festival. Volunteer Kelli Wilkinson did a talk on Natural Dyeing, and volunteer Ginger Stevens joined her afterwards in a hands-on demonstration of how natural dyes worked on historical fabrics.

This year's Independence Day Celebration didn't quite go as planned. The parade was cancelled due to dangerous heat, and as we were setting up for the event held at the Fireman's Fairgrounds, a warning went out to seek shelter due to strong and damaging storms that were headed our way. The fireworks didn't happen quite at 9, but thankfully Louisa County residents and visitors who stuck around were able to enjoy the show that finally happened around 9:45!.

This year members of our Fiber Guild participated in the Batteau Festival held in Scottsville, VA.

A Batteaux is a flat-bottomed boat that successfully bypassed unnavigable parts of the James River. This expanded trade, but by the 1840s the rise of railways and canal systems phased out these boats that were used historically to transport goods from Lynchburg to Richmond.

Our Basketweaving class was a full house, and then some! Participants learned the historical craft of using reeds to weave baskets in this hands-on class we held in June.
