THIS SCRATCHES AN ITCH IN MY BRAIN šŸŖ„šŸ§  my latest art meditation fixation is somewhat niche: drawing with acrylic markers on brown paper bag scraps the sound + the texture = instant flow state (unintentional ASMR?) P.S. If you get stuck in overthinking or perfectionism, this might be a good one to give yourself permission to not care so much - it’s just a doodle on scrap paper. Try doing it for the sensory experience, not the end result šŸ˜‡

the most satisfying scribble art meditation šŸŖ„šŸ§  ART SUPPLIES* USED: - Arteza watercolor paper - low-tack artist tape - Shuttle Art tempera paint sticks - Arrtx brush tip acrylic markers (gold & silver) *you can use other mediums for this exercise; adapt as needed to work with what you have! To trace the borders with acrylic markers, use water-soluble mediums for the scribbles (and let them dry completely) so you don’t ruin your marker nibs. If you want to use oil pastels, you totally can - just trace the borders with a contrasting oil pastel, NOT an acrylic marker (same goes for wax crayons). This is a go-to exercise for me when I’m feeling overwhelmed or creatively blocked. WHY I LOVE THIS EXERCISE: Layering scribbles and stipples is soooo satisfying - a great way to quickly release mental & physical tension. It’s also a lesson in trusting the process, and can even carry some insightful metaphors about life when I’m in a pensive mood (what do YOU think it means?). Outlining the colorful shapes helps me to focus and slow down. And peeling off the tape is a little reward for sticking with it til the end - sooooo therapeutic & satisfying! From chaos to order šŸ™Œ

Sometimes, super simple hits the spot 😌 I have several sketchbook exercises that are great for getting out of a funk or shaking up energy when I’m feeling blocked. This 5-minute session can be a warm-up to a larger project or a quickie meditation on its own. The repetitive moment is pretty darn effective for getting into flow state. I’m using tempera paint sticks; ANY medium will work for this one! Experiment with your color palettes and patterns! Have some fun out there! Relax your forehead!

neurographic-inspired butterfly grid: an art meditation with affirmations to release worry 😌 ART SUPPLIES USED: - watercolor paper (Arteza) - watercolor markers (Arteza Real Brush Pens) - acrylic markers (Posca, 3M & 5M size) - low-tack artist tape (borders) & thin washi tape (inside grid) Butterflies are a symbol for transformation, and I believe the most powerful form of transformation starts with what’s going on in our Inner World. Lately, I’ve been leaning more into the idea that transformation isn’t about fixing ourselves, but rather, accepting the beautiful potential that already exists within. Art Meditation Tips: This is beginner-friendly; NO artistic talent or experience required! If you can make flowy lines or scribbles and color in shapes, you can do this! Your lines don't have to be perfect. And you can use your preferred medium for the coloring portion (crayons, colored pencils, and markers will work well). While you draw and color, enjoy relaxing affirmations designed to help you release worry and find relief in the present moment. P.S. Longer versions of this audio can be found on my YouTube channel and meditation podcast šŸ’—

when practicing Art Meditation, there is nothing for you to ā€œfixā€ - alll experiences are valid šŸ’— ART SUPPLIES*** USED: - Canson mixed media paper - Liquitex black & silver acrylic markers - Posca acrylic markers - Sakura fineliner black ink pen - Uniball Signo silver gel pen ***other brands & mediums will work! I like to show a variety of options & price points. You do NOT need new stuff or fancy tools to practice mindful art-makingā€¼ļø ART MEDITATION 101 (a poem) It doesn’t matter what you start with; there is no right or wrong. You can move fast, you can go slow. Every approach, every perspective is allowed. Here and now, there is nothing for you to fix. All emotions are valid - there is nothing for you to fix. Here and now, you can choose to BE. exactly as you are. Observe your thoughts, say hello to your emotions, feel your breath deliver life to your body. Take the time and make an effort to notice yourself, my friend. Awareness is your window. It’s one thing to go with the flow, and it’s another to notice the flow as you go. You are always here, and always now. What a relief. (adapted from The Moody Deck, written by yours truly)

does cutting up your kid’s art for a ā€œscribble circle collageā€ art meditation count as upcycling? šŸ˜‡ I was a little nervous to cut my daughter’s artwork, but putting this together was a masterclass in trusting the process. I normally don’t frame or display my Art Meditations, but this one is special and it’s going on the wall! I LOVE IT 🄰 Art Supplies used: marker paper (I had scraps I was able to cut down into squares for this), Posca acrylic markers (5M), circle punch, and mixed media paper for the background.

Giving the ā€œswirl mosaicā€ Art Meditation a joyful, holiday twist ā¤ļøšŸ’š ART SUPPLIES USED: Sharpie Creative Markers (black, red, green in bullet tip) and Posca acrylic markers (gold, silver, white in 5M) on mixed media paper. Any coloring medium will work so use what you have! These swirls are fun, easy, and satisfying to make. Choose simple zen doodle patterns to stay out of overthinking and ground yourself in the present moment. Doodling is one of my favorite mindfulness activities! And this color palette was uplifting & energizing. P.S. if you struggle drawing spirals, that’s okay! Let your lines overlap and create interesting swirl blobs - you can still fill in the open shapes with coloring & doodling.
