Art Share was founded in 1997 by Chip Austin Hunter as an affordable housing project and community arts center. For many years it operated with primary interest in serving the inner city and East LA youth through after schools art classes. Past programs have included BLAST (Building Language Arts Skills Together), FACT (Families and Communities Together) and a variety of free classes in dance, vis

ual arts, music and recording arts. The organization suffered greatly during the recession and as a result, all employees and programs (except for FACT) were suspended in 2011. Building maintenance had been neglected and the organization was near collapse. The board worked tirelessly to bring the building back to life and maintain our residential program. New leadership was put into place and outreach efforts were made to re-establish positive relations between community partners. Art Share was reborn the summer of 2012--the building was repainted, the logo rebranded and new programs and new initiatives are in place.

Become an essential part of Art Share L.A. by supporting our events and upcoming gallery exhibitions!

Event Support (On-call) provides logistical onsite event support, including load-in, installation, and load-out. Maintaining the safety of guests, facilitating check-in of guests, vendors, and artists, and upholding Art Share visitor policies. Responsibilities may also include basic maintenance of the space, bar support, and merchandise sales.

Gallery Greeters (Weekly/BiWeekly) are the face of Art Share welcoming visitors to our space during public hours. This includes providing information about all aspects of Art Share and its programs including exhibitions on view, upcoming events, membership benefits, and our organization’s history and mission. Other duties include capturing attendance data, merchandise sales, and ensuring public spaces are clean and tidy.

CALL FOR ART: UNFOLDING LIGHT

We invite artists to submit work for Unfolding Light, a group exhibition exploring mental health and the transformative power of art. This exhibition seeks to create space for honesty, vulnerability, and connection highlighting how creative expression can illuminate personal struggles, foster healing, and build community.

Mental health impacts us all in different ways. Through this open call, we welcome artists to share work that reflects their experiences, observations, or interpretations of mental health, whether intimate, abstract, or socially driven. We are especially interested in artwork that demonstrates how art can serve as a tool for awareness and resilience.

Themes may include (but are not limited to):

- Personal narratives and lived experiences
- Healing, growth, and self-reflection
- Anxiety, depression, and emotional landscapes
- Community care and collective healing
- Breaking stigma and starting conversations

Last week to view exhale. Curated by Robert Heavrin. Presented as part of Art Share L.A.’s Emerging Curator Program, the exhibition reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting and elevating emerging curatorial voices within the Los Angeles arts community.

The Emerging Curator Program provides selected curators with the opportunity to research, develop, and present a thematic exhibition in a professional gallery setting. Through institutional support and public presentation, the program fosters rigorous curatorial practice while expanding visibility for local and regional artists.

exhale. brings together a group of artists whose works invite close attention to the elemental qualities of line, shape, and color. Through varied formal approaches, the exhibition encourages sustained looking and quiet contemplation, foregrounding abstraction and visual restraint as pathways to reflection and presence.

The exhibition features work by Anne Evans, Arisa Hsiao, Ashley Cole, Ashley Ravidas, Carlos Flores, Chad Goei, EddieLin, Gleici Rufatto, Hanna B. Ketai, Isabelle Ruth Alessandra, Justin N. Kim, Laurey Bennett-Levy, Mark Rebennack, Michael DeSutter, Monica Griffin, Robert Heavrin, Sam Crawford, Sara Marlowe Hall, Sarah Jaclyn Schwartz, and Shannon Evans.

The development of exhale. was shaped by a deeply personal experience for Heavrin, who spent nine days in the hospital while organizing the exhibition. During this period, the works assumed an added resonance. “These works helped me regulate my breathing in an anxious time,” Heavrin reflects. He recalls in particular Mark Rebennack’s ocean line drawings, describing how, while lying claustrophobic in buzzing MRI machines, he imagined taking one breath for each line of the artist’s waves, mirroring what he perceived as the meditative rhythm embedded in their creation.

This Saturday!!! Meet Brianne Arca and the rest cohort 12 during Art Share LA’s Open Studio’s and Art talk!

Arcas artwork represents the culmination of research into ceramic materials and the social structures that shape everyday life. Drawing from archaeology, they explore fractured forms and symbolic adornments to reflect historic instability. Their practice captures the pressure of the present shaped by political repression, violence, and the erosion of human rights, now expressed through the grounded tones of raw clay.

Beginning on the potter’s wheel, Arca disrupts rigid forms with coils and extensions, mirroring resistance to societal constraints. Through experimental material combinations, they explore gender and identity as fluid and unfixed. Embracing fragility, their work considers how identity and care persist in uncertain conditions, asking what remains when systems begin to fracture.

Ellsworth Artist Residency – Now Accepting Applications

Art Share L.A. invites applications for Cohorts 13 and 14 of the Ellsworth Artist Residency. This 12-week program supports emerging visual artists by providing dedicated studio space, a $1,000 stipend, professional development opportunities, and inclusion in a culminating group exhibition.

Residents gain valuable insight through studio visits and conversations with curators, critics, scholars, and fellow artists, all within a collaborative and community-driven environment.

Application Deadline: April 14, 2026 (5 PM PST)

Residency Dates:
Cohort 13: May 21 – August 13, 2026
Cohort 14: August 27 – November 19, 2026

Eligibility:
Open to visual artists based in L.A. County who can commit to 15 hours per week and participate in in-person programming. Please note this is a non-residential program.

On April 11th, 4-8 join Kelly Dennis Villalba and the rest of Cohort 12 during Art Share LA’s Open Studios and Art Talk!

Villalba is a multidisciplinary artist who explores identity through abstraction and vibrant color. Working across sculpture, fiber art, collage, painting, and performance, she draws from her experience as a first-generation Ecuadorian–Salvadorian American, incorporating pattern and color inspired by childhood travels to South and Central America. Since 2020, she has focused on soft fiber sculpture, using weaving techniques to create bold, immersive forms that evoke tension, tenderness, and movement while addressing themes of queerness and societal expectations of the body. During the Ellsworth Residency, she plans to develop three human-scale, fiber vessels that explore confinement and safety through interactive, experiential forms.

Join Art Share L.A. on April 11th, 4-8 PM and meet .

Bloomer’s work merges floral imagery with the raw energy of street art, balancing a guerrilla attitude with refined, poetic technique. By linking flowers and graffiti, the practice explores impermanence, ownership, and context - questioning what is lost when public work is contained or possessed. It also challenges traditional ideas of masculinity and femininity, using both as symbols of vulnerability, visibility, and expression beyond gender.
During the Ellsworth Residency at Art Share L.A., Bloomer has been expanding his stencil-based floral works, experimenting at a larger scale, and engaging with an artist community while drawing inspiration from the Arts District.

Art Share L.A. invites applications for the 13th and 14th cohorts of the Ellsworth Artist Residency program. A selection committee, consisting of professionals in the field, including curators, scholars, and artists, reviews all the submitted applications. The selected artists will be provided a studio space at Art Share L.A. for 12 weeks and a stipend of $1,000.

The Ellsworth Artist Residency program is dedicated to creating an accessible studio space for artists and is a dynamic opportunity for emerging artists to work and develop their visual art practice. The residency includes professional development opportunities including studio visits with curators, critics, scholars, and artists as well as inclusion in a group exhibition in Art Share L.A.’s gallery.
