LOVE FOREVER.
Remembering Yayoi Kusama, whose singular vision transformed repetition, obsession and infinity into one of the most recognizable—and deeply personal—languages in contemporary art.
In 1998, I had the extraordinary opportunity to meet her at the opening of Love Forever: Yayoi Kusama, 1958–1968 at LACMA. She was posing for photographs and when I caught her attention, she reached out and clasped my hand—a brief, tender encounter I have never forgotten.
Kusama continued painting until her final days. Her boundless universe, and her enduring message of love, will live on.
