"Kindness and compassion towards all living things is a mark of a civilized society. Conversely, cruelty, whether it is directed against human beings or against animals, is not the exclusive province of any one culture or community of people. "

Faith, church cat at Saint Augustine's Church, London. On September 6, 1940, Faith moved her single newborn kitten, Panda, from the warm upper floors of the church to the basement, just before the Germans began bombing the city. She and Panda were later rescued from the rubble by Father Henry Ross, and Faith was awarded a special medal for "steadfast courage in the Battle of London".

In 1918, the MSPCA-Angell created the Jack London Club in his honor, an organization whose members pledged their opposition to trained animal acts. They leafleted outside circuses, wrote letters to local papers, and, if they happen to find an animal act, they would hiss loudly and storm out!
