The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls

Saturday May 30th : 6pm - 9pm
RSVP to [email protected]

For more than two decades, Camille Rose Garcia has built a universe entirely her own, emerging as one of the defining female voices of Los Angeles’ lowbrow and pop surrealist movement with a painterly language that fuses gothic fairy tales, punk romanticism, and radical imagination into richly layered worlds.

In her newest exhibition, Garcia conjures enchanted dollhouses, wandering poet donkeys, stitched protectors, and relics of childhood into layered compositions that feel both intimate and cinematic. Like pages pulled from a surreal fairy tale, the paintings invite viewers into a world where imagination, tenderness, rebellion, and survival still hold transformative power.

Join us opening night!!

The Artist will be in attendance. ✨

CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA

Part exhibition, part literary universe, “The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls” centers around Camille Rose Garcia’s new six part serial graphic novella, a surreal dystopian fairy tale set in the war-ravaged world of Greater Batvia, where imagination has been outlawed and dolls are treated as dangerous relics of emotional life.

Inside the abandoned theme park Storybookland, a mysterious woman and her tea-drinking donkeys Borges and Paz ignite a strange creative uprising populated by doll manifestos, and small acts of resistance.

“Making the novella was a way of creating a world I’m not constantly disappointed in,” Garcia says. “A world of wonder and humor and creativity. And love. This is my creative manifesto hidden inside a doll book.”
- Camille Rose Garcia

In addition to original watercolor paintings created for the book, and larger paintings on wood panel rendered in her signature palette of acid pastels, smoky jewel tones, and delicate decay, the exhibition will also include limited edition copies of Dispatch One, the first installment of the novella. A rare selection of Garcia’s handmade dolls based on characters in the novella will also be debuted for the first time.

Join us for Opening Night, Saturday, May 30th 6-9pm :: The Artist will be in Attendance.

⭐️ SATURDAY MAY 30th ⭐️

CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA
The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls

For more than two decades, Camille Rose Garcia has built a universe entirely her own, emerging as one of the defining female voices of Los Angeles’ Lowbrow and Pop Surrealist movement with a painterly language that fuses gothic fairy tales, environmental collapse, punk romanticism, and radical imagination into richly layered worlds filled with acid color, ornate decay, political subtext, and emotional storytelling. Her works have long existed somewhere between painting and literature: part hallucination, part cautionary tale, part fragile act of hope. Now, with The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls, Garcia returns to one of the deepest roots of her practice: storytelling as world building.

Part exhibition, part literary universe, the project centers around Garcia’s new six part serial graphic novella, a surreal dystopian fairy tale set in the war-ravaged world of Greater Batvia, where imagination has been outlawed and dolls are treated as dangerous relics of emotional life. Inside the abandoned theme park Storybookland, a mysterious woman and her poet donkeys Borges and Paz ignite a strange creative uprising populated by doll manifestos, cigarette smoking toys, forgotten sewing rituals, and small acts of resistance against collapsing empires.

The exhibition expands the mythology of the novella into physical space through original watercolor works created for the book alongside larger paintings on wood panel that further unfold Garcia’s richly imagined world. Rendered in her signature palette of acid pastels, smoky jewel tones, and delicate decay, the works move between innocence and collapse with remarkable precision and emotional depth.

Join us for the opening night reception, with the artist in attendance. Saturday May 30th, 6-9pm. Kindly RSVP to infokpprojects.net to attend.

CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA

The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls

“They say the pen is mightier than the sword. So a pen and paintbrush together could have exponential powers.” - Camille Rose Garcia

“The Orphaned Nihilist Hospital for Dolls” is a six part serial graphic novella inspired by some of Camille Rose Garcia’s favorite types of books : fairy-tale picture books and surrealist dystopian literature.

In the world of Greater Batvia, plagued by the Forever Wars that have dealt in the currency of destruction, imagination has gone extinct and dolls have been outlawed. But when a mysterious woman and her two donkeys, Borges and Paz, arrive at the abandoned theme park Storybookland in West Cordovia, a match is lit that starts a creative revolution. Doll manifestos and coffee drinking donkeys populate an abandoned world and smoke SWANZ Doll Ci******es with gusto.

The art exhibition will feature original water color pieces from the book as well as paintings inspired by the surrealist dystopian nature of the novella. Paintings of apocalypse dollhouses carry within them the dreams and memories of childhood, as well as survival supplies like books and donkeys drinking tea. There will also be be limited edition copies of ‘Dispatch One” of the novella, available as well as a coveted selection of hand made dolls.

✨ The Artist will be in attendance opening night.

Greg “Craola” Simkins featured in “Small Wonders” 🛡️⚔️

Greg Simkins paints like someone translating dreams faster than they can disappear, conjuring fantastic creatures and mythic beings that surface briefly from some hidden world before dissolving back into his imagination.

In “The Queen of Hearts” and “The King of Clubs” dreamlike figures emerge with the clarity and strength that defines many of Simkins’ characters. In each of these pieces, every line carries movement and delicate shifts of light and color that make the figures feel alive from edge to edge.

As the ‘heart of the deck’ Simkins creates a “Queen of Hearts” that coveys strength, love  beauty, and emotional depth.  Equally powerful, is “The King of Clubs” with the qualities of a charismatic guide who leads with integrity.

Two wonderful paintings on paper currently featured in our SMALL WONDERS group exhibition. Gallery hours are Tues - Sat 12-6pm. For inquiries DM us or email [email protected].

Highlight from “Small Wonders”

On View Now through May 23rd

Deedee Cheriel’s “Ahab’s Sister”
Acrylic on Wood Panel, 18” x 24”

In Ahab’s Sister, the figures feel suspended somewhere between folklore, memory, and emotional autobiography.

Unlike the mythology of obsession and pursuit found in Moby Dick, Cherie’s painting feels softer, wiser, and more intuitive. The bird woman is connected to the whale by feelings rooted in emotional endurance and inner knowing, rather than conquest. There is symbolic geometry and a protective presence between the two that embodies an almost mythic tenderness. Theirs is a spiritually intertwined with the natural world.

Cheriel’s palette has always carried a unique warmth with color that is slightly muted and earthy, like something remembered rather than invented.

Come see this and other wonderful works on View Tuesday – Saturday 12-6pm. For inquires DM or email : [email protected]
