We are excited to have the SELA Community Map for Zine Fiesta! They will have zines community members can fill out to share their memories about places around the future rail line.

The SELA Community Map is a spatial storytelling project that illustrates and archives memories of Southeast Los Angeles as it transforms. Rooted in the intention of preserving and uplifting collective memory, the map highlights the built environment’s role in shaping everyday life.


¡Estamos encantados de contar con el SELA Community Map para la Zine Fiesta! Habrá fanzines que los miembros de la comunidad podrán rellenar para compartir sus recuerdos sobre los lugares situados en torno a la futura línea de tren.

El SELA Community Map es un proyecto de narración espacial que ilustra y archiva los recuerdos del sureste de Los Ángeles a medida que este se transforma. Con el objetivo de preservar y poner en valor la memoria colectiva, el mapa destaca el papel que desempeña el entorno construido en la configuración de la vida cotidiana.

Bring your friends and family for an evening of soccer, art-making, community fun, a photo booth and more on Friday, June 26. Then keep the celebration going at with free outdoor dancing under the stars.

This special event is co-created through The Music Center’s Partner Network Initiative alongside Arts for LA, Dance Resource Center, KCRW, LA Commons, Las Fotos Project, LAUSD Arts Education Branch, South Gate Museum & Art Gallery and Dexter Story.

We are excited to start announcing this year’s Zine Fiesta vendors! Let’s kick it off with Fun and Grains!

Suzydee Orap is the creative behind Fun and Grains, which her work is all about history and encouragement to explore. She feels BIPOC does not get a lot of encouragement to be in outdoor/nature space and hopes that through her work she can encourage those who usually don’t explore the outdoors to do so. She believes outdoor exploration isn’t inclusive or accessible to BIPOC community and focuses on that issue by making creative work that is inclusive and accessible.

¡Estamos encantados de empezar a presentar a los expositores de la Zine Fiesta de este año! ¡Empecemos con Fun and Grains!

Suzydee Orap es la mente creativa detrás de Fun and Grains, y su trabajo gira en torno a la historia y al fomento de la exploración. Considera que las personas BIPOC no reciben mucho apoyo para disfrutar de los espacios al aire libre y la naturaleza, y espera que, a través de su trabajo, pueda animar a quienes no suelen explorar el aire libre a que lo hagan. Cree que la exploración al aire libre no es inclusiva ni accesible para la comunidad BIPOC, y se centra en esa cuestión creando obras creativas que sean inclusivas y accesibles.
