Brave New Korea is a series inspired by Sung-Hee Son’s recent return to South Korea and her ongoing exploration of identity and culture. The series bridges past and present by referencing Irworobongdo—the historic folding screen that stood behind the king’s throne throughout the Joseon Dynasty. The artist juxtaposes its sun, moon, and five peaks with abstract geometric forms that evoke Korea’s rapid transformation into a global technological, manufacturing, and cultural leader.
