Lordsburg is home to New Mexico’s oldest airport. Exactly Ninety-nine years ago today, September 24, 1927, Charles Lindbergh landed in Lordsburg during his historic 48 state cross country Spirit of St. Louis air tour. So, in honor of this auspicious occasion, one year from today, on Friday, September 24, 2027, we want to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s landing in Lordsburg, New Mexico. We would like to invite interested citizens to join us in creating a “Lindbergh’s Landing Committee.” Anyone interested in joining us to throw ideas around and produce exciting ways to commemorate this historical event is welcome.

It is with a heavy heart that the Museum bids one of our founding Board Members, Mrs. Margaret Speer, a heavenly goodbye. Mrs. Speer and her husband Leon were both very instrumental in helping establish and preserve our museum. They were both wonderful people who loved their community, served as amazing role models and helped when and where they could.

The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Museum would like to thank Mr. Art Malott for his support, contributions and dedication to our community. He has helped the museum to create new displays with his donations, and improve our old ones. He recently replaced the broken glass in two of our display cases making them look brand new! Thank you, Art, for being such a Community Champion!

This past weekend marked the 2026 Hidalgo County Fair, and it was a fantastic event. The museum put together a small display (thank you Colleen Miller for the additional props), and the Fair Board showcased a wonderful collection of historical photos to celebrate the 75th Annual Hidalgo County Fair.
