The Lorain Sports Hall of Fame

The Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Officially opened on Sept. 20, 2016, the new Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Museum honors the best in Lorain athletic achievement by individuals and teams.

Opening Sept. 20, 2016, the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame honors those whose names are synonymous with all that is the best in Lorain athletic achievement. New inductees are named annually. Their plaques and other Lorain sports memorabilia are displayed in the LSHOF Museum. The single most important factor for selecting those to be enshrined is that the general public nominates them. Nominations are accepted year-round; however, only those received by September 30th are eligible for that year’s screening committee detailed evaluation process. We are sure that many of your acquaintances would be eligible for the Hall of Fame; however, this will not happen until YOU, the public, submit their name and personal qualifications. The end result of this process is to establish a ballot for final election. The Hall of Fame Committee then votes in February to select the Class of Inductees that are enshrined at the annual Banquet in May.

Mission: Honoring excellence in athletics and life to educate and inspire generations. Starting on Sept. 20, 2016, the LSHOF Museum is free and open to the public, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. It is located at Lorain High School, next to the Athletics Center entrance near the parking lot off of Pole Avenue in Lorain.

Jim Popiel happy home invasion wasn't worse

We're so glad our Jim is doing OK. He's a 1987 LSHOF enshrinee and a member of the LSHOF Committee.

As Jim Popiel sat in his living room Wednesday afternoon, he recalled the ordeal he endured last week during a home invasion in the middle of the night. A still-bruised right eye and scabs on the bridge of his nose are evidence of the lingering effects of that night. The beloved local figure was sit...
