When you own almost 20 miles of a rail line free and clear and you are not an important asset to the communities and county you run through, well something is wrong. We bought the line in the early 90’s and the operating mileage is becoming less, the fact there is a problem should be self evident.
The fact that excuses are being made for why this is the case instead of finding solutions proves incompetence. More telling is that fact that solutions were presented years ago and were ignored further strengthens the statement. The fact these solutions threatened the boards sense of control proves that decisions are made based on EGO instead of sound business practices highlights mismanagement.
In an organization such as this, you can not mange it like it is your personal property. You are merely a presence to guide and GROW it. You are supposed to secure, sustain, and nurture, there by actually PRESERVING it, not let it go to hell.
Involvement of new people (infusion of new talented people) is strongly discouraged. If you show up to help you are told this what we are doing and you do this or don’t do anything is the current philosophy. There is no attempt to match people’s talent with things that need to be done outside of what the management wants. i.e we are doing track work and NOTHING else. Any interest in any project outside of what they want is pushed aside and not allowed.
In a properly run business like this, you should welcome EVERYONE and make use of what talents are presented. Everyone brings something useful to the table.
In 40 years the bylaws have not been modified to meet the current situation of the business. Times and situations have changed so should the governing guidelines. It should not be aloud to manipulate things for one person to have so much control. For example we did not own any property when the by laws were written. They were a loose guideline to run a simple organization, not mange something that has grown into what it is.
In actuality the basic idea has long since been abandoned, and replaced by a good old boys club wanting to play trains. No actual attempt to preserve local history and educate people has been done in years now.
