Firehouse Art Center

Firehouse Art Center Non-profit art center connecting community to art & culture through exhibits, education, and events. Since 1986 The Arts Studio, Inc.
(1)

of Longmont, Colorado has served the community by promoting art education for adults and children, by creating opportunities for exhibition, and co-founding ArtWalk Longmont. In 1987, the Arts Studio,Inc. and the Longmont Council for the Arts collaborated on the renovation of the old firehouse, a historic landmark in downtown Longmont. This provided a facility for art education and classes, which

was our main focus for the next ten years. In 1999, the Arts Studio, Inc. unveiled a renovated interior of the Old Firehouse Art Center creating a permanent art gallery and improving the member’s gallery and classroom. Since that time, the Arts Studio, Inc. has increased the quality and frequency of programs and endeavor to provide exhibitions that engage and energize the community. During the past five years the Arts Studio’s programming has expanded in response to the increased demands of the area’s growing population. Our commitment to raising the standard of artistic quality has been recognized in reviews and feature stories by the newspaper, magazine, online and television media. Also noteworthy is our receipt of the 2001 and 2003 Arts Nova Awards from the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County, recognizing entrepreneurism and innovation in a non-profit organization. The Firehouse Art Center curates twelve unique exhibitions a year mixing solo and group shows. In keeping with our mission, our exhibitions are a diverse blend of traditional and contemporary styles that intersperse the work of local, regional and national artists.

ArtWalk on Main returns September 12th from 4pm-8pm! Spanning 5 blocks, consisting of over 200 booths and featuring 6 performance areas of live music and dance, this event connects community with the best Longmont has to offer in arts, dance, performance, food, music, business, nonprofits and more!

The footprint is bookended by two stages, with the Centennial State Ballet hosting the stage on 3rd and Main. We are honored to partner with them again this year and can't wait to see the amazing performances!

Centennial State Ballet began as a performance company with a passion for bringing high-quality ballet to the Longmont community. Three seasons ago, we expanded to include a school, allowing us to not only perform but also train and inspire the next generation of dancers.

Today, we are primarily a youth ballet school and company, offering strong training and meaningful performance opportunities in a supportive environment. We also offer adult classes and additional genres including tap, Bollywood, and jazz-funk fusion.

As a co-founder and Executive Director, I am passionate about creating a place where dancers can grow not only as artists, but as confident, disciplined, and resilient people. Watching our dancers discover their potential and develop a love for dance is what makes this work so rewarding to me. I am incredibly proud of how Centennial State Ballet has grown and of the community we are building in Longmont. - Moriah Sullivan, Executive Director

Make sure to stop by 3rd and Main and check out the schedule!

This is the last week to see Rehearsals for Remembering featuring works by Craig Cully & Kelly Leslie and Whitney Lea Sage.

Our Artist Talk is September 6 at 4pm on zoom. Link in the bio!

Rehearsals for Remembering explores memory not as a fixed record, but as an active and unstable process shaped through relationships, objects, and reconstruction. Through large-scale collaborative paintings and intimate accumulations of domestic imagery, the exhibition considers how meaning is built through repetition, fragmentation, and personal association.

Kelly Leslie and Craig Cully’s layered paintings emerge through an ongoing process of collaboration, where different visual approaches overlap, misalign, and respond to one another. Their large-scale works emphasize tension, balance, and exchange, turning the act of painting into a record of shared experience and shifting perception.

Whitney Sage’s paintings and sculptural fragments approach memory through accumulation and absence. Images of homes, domestic objects, and architectural details reflect on personal and collective loss, exploring how places and experiences continue to linger through objects, recollection and emotional attachment.

Together, the works suggest that remembering is a continual rehearsal, never fully stable or complete. Memory shifts over time, shaped as much by invention and perception as by lived experience itself.

Gallery hours this week:
Thursday, Friday and Sunday- 12pm-5pm
Saturday- 12pm-3:30pm

ArtWalk Partner Showcase
The Firehouse Art Center believes that Art in it's many forms should be enjoyed by all- that is why the ArtWalk footprint boundaries start with a performance stage and end with a performance stage. We are honored to partner with Dance Dimensions, whose stage is located a the North end of ArtWalk at Main and Longs Peak. Make sure to check out their amazing dancers as well as the other performers!

Founded in 1985 Dance Dimensions has provided high quality dance education in a family centered environment for over thirty years. The Leise family has continued the family tradition with three generations of educators and directors contributing to the school. From our earliest dancers experiencing the joy, creativity, and knowledge gained in their first class to advanced students studying at a collegiate level and dancing professionally, Dance Dimensions has become a pillar in the community for arts education.

We were the recent winners for the Times Call 2026 Best of Longmont. For being the Best Dance Studio, Best Gymnastics/Tumbling Instruction and Best Day Camp. Thank you to everyone who voted for us and support Dance Dimensions and the art of dance.

We are passionate about the value of arts in the lives of young people. We believe in nurturing the whole child, supporting their self confidence, self esteem, empathy, responsibility, healthy self image, mental focus, passion for endeavor and community relationships. As a liberal arts school a balance of knowledge is emphasized. For dance it means offering and valuing a comprehensive spectrum of dance forms including ballet, tap, jazz, Hip Hop, pointe, contemporary, modern, lyrical and more.

We are proud to work with caring and experienced faculty and internationally recognized guest instructors, offer high quality spring concerts, be home to a nationally recognized competition team, and partner with the City of Longmont’s Recreation program to ensure equitable access to families in our community.
