Red, white, blue, and sewing too! There was plenty of patriotic spirit in the air at our Stars, Stripes, and Stitches class! 🧵

Participants arrived with their own fabric selections and spent the evening cutting, piecing, and stitching a beautiful table runner inspired by the Double Aster Star pattern. While the project was too large to complete in a single evening, every participant successfully assembled at least one of the three blocks and left with a great start on a festive table runner perfect for summer and holiday gatherings.

Thank you to instructor Janie Lowry and everyone who joined us for an evening of creativity, learning, and fun.

STEM Camp was two days of big ideas, busy hands, and lots of robot fun! 🤖

Campers spent their time learning about coding, problem-solving, and debugging while working with Ozobot Ari robots. From figuring out how coding is used in everyday technology to tackling hands-on STEM challenges, students had a great time learning, experimenting, and cheering each other on.

A big thank you to our campers, families, and instructor Cindy Walker for making this year’s STEM Camp such a success. We loved seeing so much creativity, teamwork, and excitement at the Hansen Museum!

What do you get when you combine reed, creativity, a little patience, and a lot of laughter? Beautiful baskets! 🧺😊

Participants in our June 6 Basket Weaving class spent the day twisting, weaving, and creating Jillian’s Basket under the expert guidance of Marsha Jensen of Flint Hills Fiber. While a few sections of the basket proved a bit challenging, teamwork, determination, and Marsha’s excellent instruction helped everyone cross the finish line with a beautiful finished project.

One of the most amazing things about basket weaving is seeing how each basket develops its own personality. Even though everyone started with the same materials, each finished basket was uniquely its own. Thank you to Marsha and all of our wonderful weavers for making it such a fun day at the Hansen Museum! We can't wait to welcome Marsha back for another class on September 19.

Participants in our Sew What? Bags class on May 30 spent the day learning piecing and quilting techniques while creating beautiful patchwork bags under the guidance of instructor Pauline Poage. From selecting fabrics to stitching the final seams, students worked hard and had a great time doing it.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing several younger sewers join the class. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and encouragement of one another made the experience even more enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to Pauline and all of our participants for making this class such a success!

The Story Walk is now up around the Museum square! 📚🐾

The first book is the super cute Pete the Cat: Family Road Trip! Join Pete and his family as they travel from the East Coast to the West Coast, making fun stops and exciting memories along the way.

Families are invited to stroll around the beautiful Hansen Museum lawn while enjoying the story one page at a time. Best of all, each family that completes the Story Walk receives a FREE book (Thank you Phillips-Rooks Extension District)! It’s a wonderful way to enjoy reading, family time, and the outdoors together this summer.
