Love You A Latte ☕️

It started in 1969 when Rick first enrolled at NCCC, which at that time was referred to as Nabisco Tech. Shortly afterward, Rick began to feel that he wasn’t ready for college and left NCCC to join the military. It wasn’t until 1975 that he returned to NCCC and his life was changed forever.

One day, during a break between classes, Rick was in the NCCC Snack Bar. It was there that he met a new group of students that developed into a friendship throughout the semester. That group of new friends included a girl named Judy.

As the friendship with Judy continued, Rick’s feelings began to grow. It wasn’t until after grabbing coffee together and learning more about her that they began to date in the summer of 1976. Unfortunately, it was not smooth sailing right away. Rick was faced with a difficult financial dilemma before being offered a job starting in September. Rick felt that at that time he needed to take the job and had to leave NCCC, sadly unable to finish his degree.

Rick and Judy’s love, however, proved to be stronger than this hurdle as they remained together. Judy graduated from NCCC and continued on to receive her degree from Buffalo State. They were soon married in July of 1977. After 30 blissful years of marriage and work, Rick decided to retire. Throughout all of these years though, he always wanted to return to NCCC and complete his degree. In 2008, Rick achieved that goal and graduated from NCCC with his Associates Degree in Communications & Media Arts. The Heenan Brothers

Way to never give up Rick and Judy! 💪🥰

The Narrowboat Sessions

I love these Narrow Boat Sessions and then I heard this. Good job.

Tonight sees the final song from our very last folk band of 2017, the superb Fiddlestone. First Irish Folk, then English folk and now finally American folk. 'Erie Canal' is about the last of the mules that were used on this New York canal. The can just feel the movement of hooves as you listen to this superb piece of traditional folk.

OPENING JULY 5 - Penney Trail Exhibits

A two-exhibit extravaganza recognizing the vast collection of the late Dr. Charles Rand Penney will debut at two sites of Lockport’s Niagara History Center July 5.

The Penney Trail exhibit is an artistic rendering on panels depicting the diverse collection philanthropist Penney donated to seven local historic and cultural sites. The nine-panel exhibit will premiere at its first stop, the History Center’s Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., home to this organization’s own Penney collection. It will run through October.

The seven sites received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to exhibit panels displaying photos of Penney’s donations to their sites. Trail members are the: Niagara History Center (lead agency), Buffalo History Museum, Buffalo Museum of Science, Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Castellani Art Museum, Roycroft Campus and Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site.

Each historic and cultural site has one panel in this exhibit. The panels are intended to travel on a trail from one organization to the other. Introductory and summary panels round out the exhibit.

Panel themes are: World of Art (Castellani Art Museum and Burchfield-Penney Art Center); World of Craft Art (Roycroft Campus); World of Objects (Niagara History Center/Erie Canal Discovery Center and Buffalo History Museum); World of Travel (Buffalo Museum of Science); and World of Fairs (Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site).

The panels also tell the story of Penney (1923-2010), a lifetime collector of art, artifacts and much more. In mid-life, the Buffalo native transitioned from a law career to the avocations of collecting, travel and research. His vast collection grew to include more than 100 themes.

The History Center greatly appreciates the help of grant consultant Eve Berry on this project.

Also beginning July 5, the Niagara History Center will open the related exhibit The Advertisements of the Penney Trail, featuring examples from its own Penney collection, at its 215 Niagara St. site.

This exhibit is an eclectic mix of early 20th century advertising for diverse Lockport and Niagara County businesses. These ads are seen on a wide variety of objects, including plates, masks, bags, rulers and many other articles. This exhibit may be seen through December.

Admission to both exhibits is free. Please call (716) 434-7433 for additional information.
