After a temporary closure due to COVID-19, the Illinois State Museum (ISM) today announced it will reopen its Lockport Gallery facility in Lockport at 10 a.m. Aug. 19.


Illinois will close five large juvenile detention centers as part of a plan unveiled Friday by Gov. JB Pritzker in an effort to “transform” the current system, which Pritzker called “too punitive and too ineffective.”

The Norton Building in Lockport, built in 1850, housed grain and other materials related to shipping along the canal, while just a few miles south what’s now known as the Old Joliet Prison, which dates to 1858, housed people judged to be miscreants.
