I got to spend some time at the lovely this afternoon in preparation for Cheatham County's inaugeral Ag & Arts tomorrow.

I'll be set up at this lovely spot with my art enjoying the sunshine from 10am to 4pm Saturday September 26th.

Farm tour at 3pm! Come see where your food comes from and enjoy the place you call home.

Feling inspired already!

I've got stability, but don't worry—I take out my anger on the canvas. 😂

Somewhere along the way, a practice oil painting of an apple became about something else.

An apple. A knife.

Two objects carrying a lot of cultural baggage: expectation, tradition, temptation, consequence, and blame.

One of the strange things about being an artist is discovering that the paintings you love most aren't always the ones other people respond to.

This is one of my favorite pieces I've made—and, interestingly, it's never been one of my biggest attention-getters at shows.

Artists: does this happen to you too? And collectors/viewers—if you had to quantify it, what makes you stop in front of one painting while passing another?

Looking up through the maples at a shrine outside Nara, Japan. 🍁

One of the things I remember most from Japan is the feeling of being surrounded by layers—trees, gardens, architecture, light—all revealing themselves a little at a time. I wanted this painting to hold onto that sense of place, and the feeling of looking up and suddenly realizing your view is framed in light filtered by maples.

Sometimes a path is an invitation.

I’m interested in that moment when a landscape stops feeling like scenery and begins to feel like somewhere you can enter—the grasses leaning inward, flowers appearing in the shadows, and a glimpse of light ahead pulling you forward.

This is what I keep returning to in my paintings: not simply what a place looks like, but the sense of wonder, anticipation, and discovery that comes from moving through it.

But what's beyond the bend?

When your so spoiled Mom transports you to a tropical landscape on a pile of cushions in your first portrait.

Work in progress. It's about time this sweet bebe had a canvas like the rest of the dogos in the family.

The tops of the trees have always fascinated me. Looking upward, the canopy dissolves into light and rhythm until the forest feels almost like a church, covered in stained glass windows. These new circular paintings borrow the Renaissance tondo—a format once used to represent the sacred, celestial, and eternal

After two years of running around in my head, a flicker of something imperfect yet still fascinating, found its way onto a a canvas. So many real landscapes seem out of a dream world. After two years you wonder, did I see it? Or dream it?

Glad I didn't give up on it either way. Not even sure if its finished but it was doing a lot of talking so for now I will look and listen.
