The novitiate is the third step many young women take, after the aspirancy or candidacy and the postulancy — a time of intense study of the sisters' way of life, prayer, and growth in relationship with God that prepares novices for their temporary vows.

From the wooden clappers used to signal 5:00 a.m. rising to the fact that every province must have a novitiate in order to become a province, this blog traces what it means to become a novice.

For today's Feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa, we're sharing this wood carving. It was given by Felician Foundress Mother Mary Angela Truszkowska to Mother Mary Brunona Pydynkowski, just before the founding of the second province in Buffalo in 1900. In 1956, Mother Mary Tyburcia Szymczak moved it to Mississauga, ON.

📜 From the Archives — Catholic Resettlement House

In 1938, a Redemptorist pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Toronto contracted the Felician Sisters to take charge of the Catholic Resettlement House Day Nursery. In addition to the care of children, they ministered in the St. Gerard Clinic, and performed office work with immigrants and the unemployed. In 1986, after 48 years of administration, the Felician Sisters ended their service.
