📜 From the Archives — Immigrant Education

In 1935, Mother Simplicita Nehring learned that Eastern Canada had 10,000 Polish immigrants in immediate need of assistance. No Catholic sisters had a presence there to provide for their spiritual or humanitarian needs. Teaching English language and catechesis were essential to the mission of the Felician Sisters in Ontario.

Two of four wooden panels carved by Sister Rosemarie Goins in 1976 to adorn the chapel doors of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province in Rio Rancho. One features St. Francis with a road runner, the other is Our Lady of the Assumption. The carved panels have since been removed from the doors and stand alone.

🌿 Today we celebrate both the Feast Day of St. Francis and the start of our Mission and Heritage Week!

🕊️ St. Francis is remembered for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to those with leprosy and his love for animals and nature.

📅 The Felician Sisters celebrate Mission & Heritage Week each year from October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, to October 10, the feast of Felician Foundress Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska.

She explores the history of this program of spiritual renewal, from its beginnings in 1953 to the first interprovincial tertianship in 1977. She also describes a historic moment in 2026, when sisters in Kenya and North America shared a joint program in both locations and cultures.

📜 From the Archives — Chalice and Paten

This chalice and paten were used on November 21, 1955, in Rome by Pope Pius XII in the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Felix of Cantalice. They were donated to the original Heritage Center in Enfield, CT by the Generalate.

Located on the Madonna University campus, the Heritage Center is located on the main floor of the Welcome Center. The Archive is on the bottom floor. The center also offers bright and open multipurpose spaces for conversation, reflection and learning.
