The Revolutionary War Patriot that settled in Overton County for this month is Jacob Gardenhire who lived and is buried in the Oak Hill Community. As noted in the slide below, Jacob died prior to pension records being accepted for Revolutionary War Veterans. However, information in the pension record of another veteran named Daniel Cole has been accepted as proof of service for Jacob. Let's join together in memorializing Revolutionary War Patriot Jacob Gardenhire.

The Revolutionary War Patriot that settled in Overton County, TN that we are recognizing for this month is Joseph French. Joseph suffered a life-long impairment for his service in the War for which he was not compensated except for a small pension amount. We thank Joseph French for his service to our country in this 250th Birthday Year of the United States of America!

The Revolutionary War Veteran that we honor this month is John Gore. He is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave across the river from Shiloh Church Cemetery in Overton County on what was once Gore lands. According to Gore and local lore, John's sone Claiborne always said that "when I die, I want to buried in that field over there" and that is where it is thought that John is also buried. We honor John Gore for his service to our country, our state and our county.

To celebrate the 250th birthday of America, the museum will have a special exhibit on the early settlements and establishing new governments, Pioneer living, etc. If anyone has anything that can be used, please reach out to us. A new and revised book on the Revolutionary War Veterans who settled here with land grants. This book will be a commemorative issue and along with the 50 men in the first book, the new book will have 6 new men and other changes. The book will be available by mid May.
