The 61st Annual Livingston/Overton County Christmas Parade will celebrate "A Storybook Christmas." This year, we invite you to step into the pages of your favorite holiday classics as we honor Tennessee's beloved Dolly Parton, her lifelong passion for literacy, and her belief in the power of books.

Dolly's Imagination Library has placed books in the hands of Overton County children from birth to age five at no cost to their families, and we know that a child who learns to love reading early is better prepared for school, for work, and for life. We are proud to celebrate that legacy and the difference it has made for families right here at home.

Parade participants and businesses are encouraged to decorate their floats and vehicles using inspiration from cherished holiday tales such as A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Letters from Father Christmas, The Snowman, The Homecoming, or your own favorite Christmas storybook.

The parade will be held Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Applications are available online at https://bit.ly/livocparadeform, or you may stop by the Chamber office at 222 East Main Street to complete a paper copy. All participants will need to pay their entry fee and pick up their parade number at the Chamber no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, December 11.

The Revolutionary War Patriot that settled in Overton County for this month is Jacob Gardenhire who lived and is buried in the Oak Hill Community. As noted in the slide below, Jacob died prior to pension records being accepted for Revolutionary War Veterans. However, information in the pension record of another veteran named Daniel Cole has been accepted as proof of service for Jacob. Let's join together in memorializing Revolutionary War Patriot Jacob Gardenhire.

The Revolutionary War Patriot that settled in Overton County, TN that we are recognizing for this month is Joseph French. Joseph suffered a life-long impairment for his service in the War for which he was not compensated except for a small pension amount. We thank Joseph French for his service to our country in this 250th Birthday Year of the United States of America!

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, the museum has a new exhibit to commemorate that event. Come visit the museum and see what led to those important events that created this land we love. Look through the notebook of pensions to see if you have an ancestor who fought in the American Revolution.

The Revolutionary War Patriot that we are honoring for this month is Rowland Flowers. We honor him for his service that helped to establish our country. Happy 250th Birthday, USA!

The Revolutionary War Veteran that we honor this month is John Gore. He is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave across the river from Shiloh Church Cemetery in Overton County on what was once Gore lands. According to Gore and local lore, John's sone Claiborne always said that "when I die, I want to buried in that field over there" and that is where it is thought that John is also buried. We honor John Gore for his service to our country, our state and our county.
