Join us on Wednesday, August 5 at 4:30 PM for a fascinating presentation at the Skä•noñh - Great Law of Peace Center.

"A Rendition of Indigenous Archaeology: The Simmons Site, To***co Pipes, and NAGPRA" will be presented by Alyssa Jambro, who recently completed her master's degree in Applied Anthropology at Georgia State University with a focus on Indigenous Archaeology.

Drawing from her research on an Erie village in Buffalo, New York, Alyssa will explore the role of to***co pipes, the impact of the updated NAGPRA regulations, and how archaeologists and Indigenous communities can work together to support tribal sovereignty while reinterpreting past archaeological research.

The Skä•noñh Great Law of Peace Center is honored to partner with Betts Branch Library for an upcoming community program exploring the Haudenosaunee’s profound influence on U.S. democratic principles.

Center Director Emerson Shenandoah will share insights into the history and teachings of the Great Law of Peace, the role of the Onondaga Nation and Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the enduring impact of Indigenous political thought on the founding ideals of the United States.

As America approaches 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this conversation centers Native perspectives that are too often left out of the historical narrative.

Spots are filling quickly for our upcoming program “The Deer Hide Agreement: Diplomacy, Responsibility, and Renewal” at the Skä•noñh Great Law of Peace Center—be sure to reserve yours today.

Join us on Friday, April 10 for an evening of reflection and community conversation grounded in the Deer Hide Agreement, an enduring symbol of Haudenosaunee diplomacy and responsibility. The program will open with a brief reflection from Oren Lyons before participants are invited into a facilitated discussion exploring the ideas of diplomacy, responsibility, and renewal.

This program is part of “Speaking of Revolution,” a statewide series presented by Humanities New York through the national initiative By the People: Conversations Beyond 250. Together, we’ll reflect on how agreements, relationships, and responsibilities continue to shape community life today.
