Lt. Langhorne Washburn, son of Stanley and Alice Washburn. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Pacific theater of World War II. He was also born at the Norlands in 1918!

Our special exhibit features collection items that have never been displayed before, especially in our World War I and World War II room. Come take a guided tour or join us on Living History Days for a Historian Talk to hear more about this display!

Goat spotlight: Cecil!

Cecil is one of our very lovable goats. He's easy to spot because he's the only brown and white goat in the herd. Like all of the animals on our property, Cecil has a job: to mow the lawn. He's not as adventurous as some of the other goats, so he likes to stay behind when the rest of the herd escapes. Cecil is also fond of sticking his head through the fence to get ear scratches.

Did you know that goats have rectangular pupils? This unique feature allows goats to see more in their peripheral vision, protecting them from predators while they graze.

Did you know that the Norlands property includes over 400 acres of trails, fields, and forests to explore? Visitors are welcome to enjoy the grounds free of charge from sunrise to sunset any day of the week.

You never know what you might encounter — more than 100 species of plants, birds, fungi, insects, and mammals have already been documented on the property, and there are hundreds more waiting to be discovered. Whether you're an experienced naturalist or simply enjoy being outdoors, come visit us and experience the wildlife that calls Norlands home!
