Join us in-person or virtually for a celebration of PARABLES, POLITICS & PROPHETIC FAITH. Retired judge and current pastor of New Millennium Church, Wendell L. Griffen and Allan Boesak, South African cleric, politician and anti-apartheid activist will discuss and sign this book about parables for our times. We work with selected passages of Scripture, reading and interpreting them as parables as we attempt to understand and discern the signs of our times that we may now, perhaps too benignly, describe as times of great upheaval and confusion. We talk of parables, not as stories about tragedies or chaos in the observations of politicians whose politics is so flawed that their perceived wisdom drowns in the tragedies their own politics created and keeps creating. We speak of parables as Jesus told them, as subversive of the politics of these men and women of power and subversive of their ultimate intentions that in both cases, then and now, were and are so contrary to the politics of Jesus. Happy New Year and Happy Kwanzaa! The seventh and final principle is (Faith) which is essentially a profound and enduring belief in and commitment to all that is of value to us as a family, community, people and culture. Faith is put forth as the last principle as unity is put forth as the first principle for a definite reason. It is to indicate that without unity, we cannot begin our most important work, but without faith we cannot sustain it. Unity brings us together and harnesses our strength, but faith in each other and the Good, the Right, the Beautiful inspires and sustains the coming together and the commitment to take the work to its end.

Central Arkansas, we will be celebrating with the community today at 2 PM. Elnora Wesley’s The H.O.M.E. will have specially priced vegan soul food plates for the karamu (feast) following the ceremony. TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY to bring gently used and new children’s books for donation to a nonprofit community resource hub!
