We are looking to borrow an antique/vintage twin bed headboard - prefer wood or dark metal- for a display at the History Center during Nov. and Dec. Please send a pic if you have one. Thanks!

We are also looking for various ethnic items for our "Christmas Around the World" exhibit - we will be creating displays on various countries featuring their glassware, baskets, linens, whatever! All will be secured in display cases and returned in January. Or if you have ethnic Christmas decorations and would like to decorate a small tree or loan them to us, that would be great, too. Please respond here if you have something to loan or call us at 651-257-5310. Thanks!

Check out the Little Red Schoolhouse Program from the Marathon County Historical Society in Wausau, WI. What fun for the county 4th graders each year in spring and fall!

We know some people in Marathon County who attended one-room schools back in the day. Here's a way to get a taste of what that was like. http://marathoncountyhistory.org/education/little-red-school-house

Mother's Day in the U.S. was first celebrated in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating a national holiday on the 2nd Sunday in May to honor mothers. Vintage greetings to all the mothers out there on this Mother's Day 2020!

This is a cool post from Mower County Historical Society in Austin for the MN Museum Alphabet Project. We should participate!

Over the next few weeks, we are joining many of our fellow local history museums in Minnesota as we work through the #mnmuseumalphabet. We hope you enjoy learning about Mower County history as we work our way through the next 26 days.

A is for Apron. On August 4, 1856 Mary Watkins wore this apron to marry Caleb Stock at her parent's cabin near Austin. There were very few settlers in the area and the ceremony was performed by a Justice of the Peace, “In the name of the commonwealth of the territory of Minnesota and by the power vested in me thereby I pronounce you man and wife.” According to the early history book,s Caleb and Mary's wedding was the first in Mower County!

Good info about Hoosier Cabinets...we have one in our "kitchen" at the History Center!

Late 1800s and early 1900s houses rarely had built-in cabinetry, and as family size began to grow, the kitchen was increasingly becoming one of the most important rooms in the house.

One thing I have noticed missing in Lindstrom and Chisago City a bowling alley and movie theatre? Most small towns had both or one or the other.
Does anyone know who I would contact with a question about the Panola Cemetery?
Hello! I am working on a project for Chisago City Hall, I know where many of the old resorts were located, however I can't seem to find locations on the following: Engdahls,Schooners Resort, Carleys farm, Klines resort, Bungalow beach? thank you for any information you may have on these locations. I know the lakes but not the locations on the lakes-like bungalow beach was on little green? but whereabouts? Thank you so much. Doris
I've had someone contact me asking what use to be in the recently sold Chisago Antiques building, I did some research but couldn't narrow down what existed there before. Does anyone know? Thank you!
Hi, I am looking for some information on the Moline Family. I have heard that they owned a hotel in Chisago, but I cannot confirm this. My kids’ great great grandma was Marie Moline. She only had one child with Paul Nelson and they resided in white bear lake. I am looking for any historical information on the Moines. If somebody could point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative.
I want to say thank you to the volunteers at CCHS. As the only family member of my mother's cousin, living in Portland Oregon the taks for finding the family plot in an Old Swedish Cemetery was a daunting task (so many Old Swedish Cemeteries in Minnesota). Add to that the last name Johnson, and I didn't think I would ever find the appropriate place for my cousin's remains (he died in November 2018). Well, two of the volunteers at CCHS found the family plat, provided me with the details and all is well. So, I will be in Lindstrom at the end of April for my cousin's burial and will be stopping by with a little gift. I have the Ellis Island passes from my grand parents and great grandparents for the collection. Thank you!
If you have an interest in Genealogy and vintage photographs or documents I'd like to invite you to join our groups "Family Treasures Found" and "Forgotten Faces, Forgotten Places" on facebook. "Our Mission is to rescue vintage photographs, letters, etc., from languishing on dusty shelves and long-forgotten boxes. Through research we strive to reconnect long-lost ancestral history to descendants AT NO CHARGE." The groups, have been formed to display "lost" Identified/Unidentified Photos & Documents so they may be returned to their descendants (or an appropriate historical society, library, etc). Our hope is that, as more people join the group, they will identify our unmarked photos by comparing them to existing photos which they may have in their possession.
Does anyone know what regional rock bands played at the Chisago Community Center in the mid-60's? Thanks!
