Linden Depot Museum

Linden Depot Museum Linden Depot Museum is a railroad museum that occupies the last junction depot in the state of Indiana. Welcome to the Linden Depot Museum!

This 1909 built depot once served both the Nickel Plate Road and the Chicago Indianapolis & Louisville Railway otherwise known as the Monon. This depot was built in 1906 and has seen many railroads come and go. This depot once served famous railroads such as the Monon Route, Toledo St Louis & Western (a.k.a The Clover Leaf Route) as well as the Nickel Plate Road and Norfolk & Western. Today, CSX T

ransportation is the only active rail line passing the depot and the depot is no longer used by the railroad. This depot is now used as a museum to help educate the public about all things railroad! We have many unique pieces in our collection as well as an operating model railroad in a separate building. Come on out during our normal business hours and see what we are all about!

Would like to share a personal project that I have been working on outside of the museum.

I am working on creating an HO scale free-mo module of Linden Depot as it appeared in 1958.

Free-mo modules are small modules that will interlock with other modules from members of groups that build them. They have a set of standards that they go by to make sure each module is the same height and that the track will connect without issue.

I am wanting this project to serve as a showpiece for train shows as well as a mobile educational exhibit for the museum. I would also like to use it to advertise and get the word out about the museum.

Bench work is not complete as of yet, but I have several structures built and at the ready.

More to come on this project as I get more accomplished.

Paint work has commenced! Caboose has been sanded and now they have the lettering painted, they will mask off the lettering to do the surrounding paint. Hoping to find someone to pressure wash the sidewalk in the area. We will also be cleaning out the stuff sitting under the caboose to make it more presentable.

This month, on the 15th, marks 57 years since the Golden Spike Centennial Limited made an appearance as it passed eastbound by the Linden Depot on May 15th 1969. I do believe this would also mark the very last time a steam locomotive made an appearance in Linden.

Good Evening, Everyone!

I wanted to provide an update on Project 497. The folks who are going to do the painting for us, came to the depot today to begin prep work on the car body. They sanded the the entire depot facing side of the caboose, as well as both ends. They put extra focus on sanding down the areas with the most rust. Next will be the other side of the car and the roof. We have primer and most of the colors at the ready to begin painting provided the weather is decent. Again, I want to thank everyone who has donated to this project as well as to Montgomery County Tourism for awarding us the $3000 grant which will help see us through the rest of the project.

I am uncertain as to the completion date of painting, as the weather has been on and off with rain for the past several weeks. I will post updates as I check in on how things are doing.

Thanks Everyone! - Adam

Here are a few interesting photos of 497. Back when it was in service with the Norfolk & Western, and then when it arrived to the museum in 1990. Also a few photos of the re-paint in 1993.

Good news regarding project 497. We have found someone to do the painting! That leaves us with just needing to supply the paint, which is still a financial hurdle to jump over. But, I have faith we will get there. We are super close to being able to get to work in the spring now, if we can obtain the funding for paint.
