Lincolnville Historical Society - Schoolhouse Museum

Lincolnville Historical Society - Schoolhouse Museum The Schoolhouse Museum will open each summer late June and will be closed just before Columbus Day weekend. We also have many pictures and exhibits.

Come for a visit and we may be able to trace the history of your house or property. We have many projects in progress each year. On our website you wil find Archaeology info, detail Cemetery data, Genealogy sources, our Publications, a Timeline, our Store of books and more. Some of the projects include copying and transcriping town records, letters from the mid 1800s. Another new project is findin

g our historic sites, noting their exact location or former location, and then marking them on an interactive map of our town. This process, which records sites using latitude and longitude, will be just as helpful in the future whether properties change hands or road names evolve, and it lets us include basic information keyed to each site.

These photos of 1958-1958 Lincolnville Central School students turned up recently at the Schoolhouse Museum. Unfortunately, no names came with them. Take a look and if you recognize someone (maybe yourself!) respond to the post so we can fill in the names! Use the column letter and row number.

We always look through the books, yearbooks, Bibles and other printed material that comes our way at the Schoolhouse Museum. You never know what may have been tucked inside those pages many years ago. This prize card from the 1937 Lincolnville Fair is just the latest treasure. The Lincolnville Fire Department used cards like these at their annual Fireman's Ball. Who remembers the Fireman's Ball? How many names and businesses do you remember? Do you have any of these old prize cards to donate to the LHS? In their own way, the cards themselves are a treasure!

Special for the holidays!

Several years ago, Margaretta Warren Thurlow, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 97, recorded her reading of Henry Van Dyke's The Story of the Other Wiseman. It was her favorite Christmas story, and hearing her voice once again should be a treat for all who knew her. Whether you knew Margaretta or not, settle back with the family and listen to a charming story read by this unique woman who lived through most of the 20th Century.
