Zora Arkus-Duntov:

Just Reading his name stirs thoughts in any gearhead. His political mastery inside the large corporate structure of GM as well as his tremendous influence on everything Corvette are both well know and widely appreciated. However, our focus will be on the outstanding achievements and tremendous influence Zora Arkus-Duntov had on every Engine Builder over the last 70 years.

As discussed in the attached introductory video, Zora was a pioneer in maximizing the volumetric efficiency of engines through increased airflow. We know this seems elementary today, but the general approach to increase power before Zora and Yuri Arkus-Duntov introduced their "Ardun" heads was to increase displacement. Today's common approach of increasing airflow in an existing engine by swapping to better flowing head owes much to these brothers.

Additionally, "The Duntov Letter" from Zora to Maurice Olley can be seen as a world altering event in both the performance aftermarket and racing. He directly spurred GM's involvement in enhancing parts available to increase performance. His support for engine builders and racers using the new Chevrolet Small Block engine changed the course of GM and the entire aftermarket.

Everyone with the Engine Builder Hall of Fame is excited to announce Zora Arkus-Duntov as one of this year's inductees into the Engine Builder Hall of Fame!

Our hearts go out to the Pink family and friends at the passing of the legendary "Old Master" and inaugural class member of the Engine Builder Hall of Fame (among countless other honors). His guidance and insight regarding the history of professional engine buildering has been extremely valuable to this organization, and his contributions throughout motorsports are innumerable. Ed Pink and his amazing mind have been a wonderful gift to our sport. He will be dearly missed.

HOT ROD Magazine mourns the loss of famed engine builder Ed Pink.
