So, do you need the world’s largest horse to pull the world’s largest covered wagon? Ha. Have a safe ride, Abe, and enjoy your new surroundings.

On Monday morning, June 15th, the crew of Brad Matthews Construction in Lincoln began the task of relocating the Railsplitter Covered Wagon to the Welcome Garden downtown. The first step was to remove the split rail fencing around the wagon and then remove its wheels.

On Tuesday (today), the wagon is expected to be loaded onto a trailer and delivered to the garden, where reconstruction will begin.

Lincoln Daily News will follow the progress and offer full coverage when the new installation is completed.

The Lincoln Heritage Museum is open Tuesdays - Fridays from 9 AM to 4 PM, and on Saturdays from 1 to 4 PM.

The Lincoln Heritage Museum is proud to stand alongside and to support our new local museum opening soon here in the first city named for Abraham Lincoln.

On Monday, June 1st, the new Museum of Route 66 in Lincoln Illinois opens to the public!

Our hours will be 11am-3pm, Monday - Saturday. These hours are during our soft opening for about a month, until our Grand Opening in July. The public is welcome to visit and see the exhibits take full shape.

There is no admission during our soft opening period!

We are excited to see everyone!
