Introducing Melissa Rost!

Melissa's interest in art began at a young age. She had her first exhibit (in watercolors) in the library of her high school during her senior year. After getting a doctorate in optometry, Melissa kept her creative juices flowing by designing greeting cards using rubber stamps and other paper-crafting techniques.

This grew into a side business while raising her two boys. Eventually, this evolved into an interest in repurposing old books. Her birch tree multimedia collages were first sold to benefit the Ligonier Valley Library in a fundraising event.

Although still passionate about multimedia, Melissa turned to oil paint as her preferred medium around 15 years ago. She credits her inspiration to the work of James Brandess, an artist based in Saugatuck, Michigan. His use of heavy paint and broad brush strokes in a plein-air setting inspired her to take one of his summer workshops—where she was instantly hooked. Today, Melissa combines her love of the palette knife and the outdoors into her plein air works of art. She has previously sold work through the Southern Allegheny Museum of Art (SAMA) and continues to find inspiration in the beauty of the laurel highlands that surround her. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Melissa as she joins the G Squared artist family!

Last Sunday, we had the pleasure of hosting Joe Teplitz for our inaugural Art In The Spotlight lecture series. Joe took us on a journey through his career as a photographer, taught a few rules of photography, and even showed our audience some tips and tricks for getting the most out of your cell phone camera. We cannot wait to do this again!

📸 Today’s the day! Join us at G Squared Gallery at 2 PM for an interactive artist lecture with local pro photographer Press1Photos, LLC - Photos by Joseph Teplitz! Whether you're into photography or just curious, this is a great opportunity to learn and get inspired.

Joe will be sharing his background, showcasing some of his favorite work, and talking about what makes a great photo. He’ll provide some simple tips on composition so you can start taking better shots right away—whether you’ve got a camera or just your phone!

We’ll wrap things up with a Q&A, so bring your questions! It’s going to be a fun, laid-back afternoon. We’d love to see more people there, so feel free to drop by and bring a friend.
