Lexington County Museum A story behind every door. It's mission is to collect, preserve and present the history of Lexington County.

The Lexington County Museum offers a rare & unforgettable experience with structures & artifacts that focus on the everyday lives of Lexington County residents from the colonial period to the Civil War. Located on 7 acres of land in downtown Lexington, the Museum features 30 historic structures including the oldest house in Lexington. The Museum features locally made furniture, textiles, pottery, and weapons. Visit the Museum to experience a way of life gone forever!

There are two great learning opportunities this afternoon, one at the Pelion Branch Library and one at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library. Museum staff members will be discussing ghosts and legends of Lexington County at the Pelion Library at 4 pm and will give a presentation on the superstitions of Lexington County and the Dutch Fork at the Gilbert Summit Library also at 4 pm. Both of these presentations are free to attend.

The Museum is once again growing O'Dell's white watermelon in its vegetable garden. O'Dell's white was developed by an enslaved worker named Harry at the Dutch Fork plantation of Colonel A.G. Summer. The namesake of the watermelon, Summer's friend Milton O'Dell, helped popularize the melon.
