Today was Lebanon History Day, celebrated by 450 LSSD 5th graders who were introduced to over 20 history-related sites and agencies in our city. Cumberland University and Fiddler’s Grove Historic Village hosted the event, and volunteers turned out in droves to man their stop on the tour.

Some of the Fite-Fessenden House volunteers seen here worked at the 1880’s schoolhouse stop, others helped the kids make an old-fashioned whirligig toy, still others were part of a dulcimer band making sweet string music for the fifth graders to enjoy.

The young people behaved beautifully, were attentive, enthusiastic, and polite. Thanks to EVERYBODY who played a part in making history come alive.β€œβ€8 GB hi I

Women’s History in Lebanon
Lucy Nelson is recognized in the Lebanon History Museum as the first female firefighter for the City of Lebanon Fire Department. She first applied when she was 19. Being persistent she obtained her goal and was hired in 2008. Mrs. Nelson has dutifully served the citizens of Lebanon these past 14 years and is currently one of our most tenured Engineers. She has paved the way for other female personnel presently employed in the Lebanon Fire Department.

We invite you to visit the Museum to see not only Mrs. Nelson's exhibit, which will be featured for several more months but also the other updated exhibits on display!

The Museum is located in Lebanon's City Hall, formerly home of the stately Castle Heights Military Academy at 200 North Castle Heights Avenue. Currently, the museum doors are locked, so please use the ramp entrance. Once you sign in to our guest book located next to the security guard station, you will be directed to the museum entrance.

If you have any questions regarding the Museum, please contact Kathleen Vail at 615.444.3647 ext. 2320. The normal hours of operation will be from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Closed on all federal holidays.

We had high hopes and worked hard to update the museum, refreshed the β€˜focus on’ exhibits seasonally, and hosted some fun events! It has been one year since the reopening/ribbon cutting and we wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped make it a great one- so here’s to all of the behind the scenes workers and every single one of you who have visited, we appreciate you very much πŸ’š
