Although today marks the last day of Leadville Boom Days 2026, it is not too late to explore the historical roots of this event! Today is another pay-what-you-can day ($20.00 minimum for gold panning). Both the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum and the Matchless Mine Historic Site will be open from 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. MDT with opportunities to learn about both the 1860s gold rush and 1880s silver rush that took place right here in Leadville, CO. Additionally, the Colorado 150 exhibit celebrating the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood is now open.

Admissions: Combination ticket for both the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum and the Matchless Mine Historic Site. Tickets are available for purchase at both locations (card only at the Matchless Mine Historic Site) and online at https://mininghalloffame.org/.

Just in time for Leadville Boom Days 2026, a new exhibit has premiered in the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum!

On August 1, 2026, the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum opened CO 150: 1876 – 2026, an exhibit commemorating Colorado's 150th anniversary of statehood by telling the story of the boomtown that helped bankroll it. The exhibit covers the three decades surrounding statehood — from the 1860 discovery of gold in California Gulch to the shipment of silver bars out of the district in 1890 — through historic black-and-white photographs, a newly produced documentary film, and then-and-now views of mines still visible from the Mineral Belt Trail.

A short documentary video, produced with grant funding from the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation, traces the transformation of the ore transport railway that once served the Leadville Mining District into the Mineral Belt Trail — the 11.6-mile paved loop that today carries walkers, cyclists, and skiers over the same grades that once carried ore. Accompanying photographs pair mines visible from the trail at the height of their production with the same sites today, most now standing as ruins.

Leadville Boom Days 2026 is finally here and we could not be more excited! To celebrate, Saturday and Sunday will be pay-what-you-can days ($20.00 minimum for gold panning). Both the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum and the Matchless Mine Historic Site will be open from 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. MDT with opportunities to learn about both the 1860s gold rush and 1880s silver rush that took place right here in Leadville, CO. The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum is excited to announce the opening of our newest exhibit. Celebrate Colorado’s 150th anniversary of statehood by learning about the people of early Leadville and the mines around the Mineral Belt Trail! This gallery opens August 1st, 2026.

This exhibit highlights what was happening in Leadville slightly before and after statehood from the discovery of gold in 1860 to the transport of silver bars in 1890. The city of Leadville was founded in 1878. Many of the Leadville firsts are shown in black and white photographs through the accomplishments of our early pioneers. A short documentary video, paid for by the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation, shows the transformation of the ore transport railway in the Leadville Mining District into our recreational Mineral Belt Trail (MBT). Photographs show a few of the mines that are visible from the MBT then during the height of production and now as mostly ruins today.
